Kramer just had the sneeze attack to end all sneeze attacks. He's always been a little bit sneezy; he's never had any other URI symptoms, except one eye infection that was promptly treated. And I also figure he doesn't have an extended URI because Boots shows no symptoms and aren't URIs super contagious?

But seriously... 32 sneezes in the space of less than a minute. Just now. He sneezed so much and so hard that he got snot sprinkles (eww) on the couch and he was drooling. I have never seen a cat do this.

He's fine now. He went back to grooming himself and playing with Boots a few minutes ago. But I thought he was going to give himself a stroke for a minute there.

My guess is that he got something really, REALLY tickly in his nose (a bug?) and couldn't get it out for a while, so his body just went to defcon-1 and tried as hard as it could to expel the intruder.

Maybe allergies? But he has no other symptoms. No rashes, irritation, etc. I use unscented litter, I don't wear perfume, I never burn candles, I don't smoke, and I cook almost everything I eat in the microwave to limit smoke/food smells from getting to his nose... all because he's slightly sneezly.

But this is new. Obviously if it happens again I'll take him to the vet, but any ideas? Just curious. :)

I think you're right and he got something stuck in there, and sneezing would be the only way to dislodge out of there.  Poor little trooper.

I had a dog that got a piece of a flower stuck in her nose when she was rolling around. She sneezed like 100 times and her nose even bled a little before she got it out. Really disturbing to watch, but it's not like you can just stick your finger in there and get it out.
