Question of the Day Nov 16, 2011 Delayed yet again

Sorry about not getting to the question earlier, but I have had a lot on my plate recently at work. A minimum of 5 hrs over over time this week alone.

Do you watch cooking shows? Which one's do you like to watch?

I watch several shows on the Food Channel. I like Chopped, Iron Chef, and a lot of the competition shows. That was where I learned how to chop onions before the tears come! LOL

I do like watching them!  I love Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!  I was watching recently and they stopped at a place in the small town where my step-sister lives!  I know most "diner" food is bad for you; but man does it look gooooood!

I also like watching Paula Dean and Rachel Ray.  I've watched Barefoot Contessa a few times too.  Most of the shows I don't watch for recipes; I just like watching them cook and seeing how they combine ingredients to make whatever dish.  Although I have learned some good stuff watching Rachel Ray.  I used to watch her talk show every morning.  My DD likes her too. LOL  Oh and I like Ace of Cakes!  Not as much of a "cooking" show; but close enough!  Oh and that Best Thing I Ever Ate show is good too!  I'm not much for the reality show competitions; but I do like when it's just 2 people competing; esp two master chefs.  You can see what each is doing better.

I love Alton Brown (on Good Eats). Yep. And Take Home Chef is good. I can't think of any others I like. And Paula Deen's "yawal" drives me bonkers. Do some Southern people really say it that way or is it just her?

Nope! I don't like to cook, so there isn't much point in me watching the cooking shows, but I DO like the competition shows like Hells Kitchen. catman.gif

I've always loved Alton Brown and Good Eats and used to watch him every chance I could. Sadly, he's given up on Good Eats, although I understand that he's working on something else now.

I've enjoyed Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, too. I like her calmness, while she's cooking. I like her kitchen and I enjoy seeing her gardens.

That's pretty much it. Since the Food Network has switched over to mostly competitions and "where to go to get this food" type shows, I've lost all interest. I enjoy instructional cooking shows and I want to learn something while I'm watching. It's not enough to tell me to do something; tell me why I need to do it that way....it makes a more informative point and that's when I learn.

As for Paula Deen, if you watch her earlier shows, she's nothing like she is now.....she's almost a caricature of herself now. I used to watch her, but stopped a long time ago. People still like her, though, and that's fine.

I love Restaurant Impossible. Some of those restaurants are sooooooo bad. Some of the kitchens were so dirty, that I am surprised that the health department hadn't closed them down. But what Robert Irvine and his people can do in 48 hrs and $10,000 is amazing.
