I have just adopted a beautiful 12 week old kitten. He has been with me for 6 days now and I love him to bits. When I took him to the vets on Monday to get his vaccines the vet saw that he had a bit of a runny eye and his purr was a bit crackly so she said he proabably had a bit of a Upper Respiratory Infection which she said was quite common in cats that came from farms. She gave him a 8 day shot of antibiotics and said to come back for his vaccines next week. SO I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that he will be ok! My dad has just recently died and I just cant bear the thought of losing my new pet too  and I am such a worrier its all I can think about!!! He is playing, eating and drinking well though has an occasional sneeze x x x Responses much appreciated, Jen x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

He'll be fine with some TLC.

Your vet is right, it's pretty common, though not just for kitties from farms.

New home/surroundings/people.

Cats of all ages dislike change and change can stress an awful lot of cats, creating the perfect host for a little infection (it's the cat version of a cold).

Congrats on your new baby, and welcome to the site!

We love pictures here, so head on over to Fur Pictures in the Cat Lounge and feed our fix!

He should be absolutely fine hun. :) URIs ARE incredibly common. I foster for the local shelter and most foster cats/kittens I get in are infected with it, but get over it in time. Be patient, keep your chin up and give your baby lots of lovin'!
