Stray Cat - Pregnant, Very Small

I live in the cul-de-sac of a small development. I suspect that people are dumping cats in the cul-de-sac. I haven't been putting out dry cat food on my front porch since this past January. I was only putting out food if I saw a stray cat around. I decided to put out some dry cat food since the weather was turning colder. I quess that was a mistake!! Within 2 days a cat showed up on my porch to eat. Her belly is big.....she is likely pregnant. She is a very small cat & I suspect she is very young....maybe as young as 6 months old. Also, she is very friendly and is NOT a feral cat. She has belonged to someone. I am waiting until the vet's office opens to make an appointment for this cat. I don't know what I'll do if the vet suggests the cat should be spayed because there are too many kittens & few people willing to adopt. I don't know how far along in a pregnancy a "spay" can be done. I took in a stray female cat several years ago to be spayed. When I took her to the vet it turned out she was pregnant. She did not look pregnant so it was early on in the pregnancy. The vet advised me to have the spay because there are too many cats & I reluctantly agreed .....but it was a sad decision. The vet's office frequently has kittens in a large dog crate in the waiting area. I'm hoping that if it turns out a spay can't be done, the vet will let the kittens be placed in her office for adoption. I have 10 cats. I can't take in anymore. Six of the 10 were kittens born near our home August 2010. I trapped the mother cat & when she was spayed vet did an FIV test & she was positive. So I was advised to test the kittens when they were 6 months old. I had them neutered & FIV tested at 6 months of age. All were negative for FIV but by that time we were attached to them. The mother cat was recently placed at a shelter in the FIV section. It turned out to be much sadder that I expected. She is having a rough time adapting. My daughter & I visit her almost every day at the shelter.

I was able to get an appointment with a nearby vet.

 

It turns out she is NOT pregnant just overweight. Not sure how a cat living outside could find enough food to be overweight.

The vet said she could be spayed tomorrow so we left her at the vets. 

 

It's a big relief that she is not pregnant. I already have 6 "kittens" who are now full grown along with my original 4 cats.

 

I will have to work on her losing some weight.
