Another reason for kittens found in odd places is that the mother sometimes moves them in stages to a new location. She can't count, so she depends on them making noise when she calls them.  If she should get distracted (chased by a dog or a human, for example), she may forget where she was in the move.
You know, I remember seeing something about that on National Geographic channel. Only it was about a jaguar momma and how she moved her litter around. Cats are cats, no?

Oh wait, aren't kittens deaf for the first couple weeks? I know mine can feel very minute vibrations and have a great sense of smell already, but I don't they can hear yet.

Mo took a poop! I'm sooooo glad, she hasn't gone in almost two days, and it was quite a log, too
at least 4x larger than any other stool either of them have ever made. She must feel so much better. But the funny thing is I couldn't tell by her behavior anything was wrong. Compared to Larry Mr Attention Hog, she is a little angel. She's not weak or lethargic, at feeding time and during baths she is very lively and meows just as loud, she just doesn't fuss as much. I've also been spending a lot more time holding them and letting them lay in bed with me and Larry just won't stop rooting around for a tit. I have to seal him under the blanket or he will crawl off the bed and fall on the floor. Mo on the other hand crawls under my chin, tries to nurse on my ear and goes to sleep within a few moments.

Oh yea, she is purring now and, of course, her eyes are just starting to open. I think Larry would purr too if he could suckle on something real, he just won't accept any substitutes.

Larry is not out of the woods yet. He's not eliminating enough and when he does it's not solid, it's sort of semi-diarrhea.

More good news: I found this vet online, his name is Bill Knapper and he makes house calls! But the best part is his office is within blocks of my house. I know that area and it is not a commercial district, so he must be practicing out of his home. If his reviews mean anything he is a great doctor who will work with me. I'm going to call him tomorrow and see if I can take the babies over there, ask if he will accept a post dated check so they can get a proper examination and any treatment needed.

Something else I have noticed is these babies have absolutely no fleas. I would think a feral cat would have given them to her kittens. It's a good thing, but really odd.

What is the colour of it?

It is not sure it is a big wrong. The solid poo they get is when they begin to eat "real food".  As long as they eat mother milk it is like toothpaste in consistence, they say.

Most peple sees small kitten poo very seldom as their mom is usually eating it up.

So it is really almost only rescuers who do get know all about small kitten poo!  :)

I strongly suspect if a small kittens eliminates solid poo it is sooner she is somewhat constipated, "hard", then everyting is just great...

Good luck!   *vibes*

Sort of a light brown. It is about the consistency of tooth paste, only some is a little more liquid-y. It's very rare that they poop when I stimulate, I usually see it in the nest and it will dry up pretty fast and be hard. I did catch some today and it was pasty. He's also passing gas so I'm almost positive it's constipation from the goat's milk and medicine dropper I'm using. The KMR and kitten bottles should arrive tomorrow so hopefully those will solve the problems with poor digestion and put him in a better mood. He's been REALLY cranky today.

Yeah, at TCS we often find ourselves discussing pee and poop, and celebrating when things go the way they're supposed to! :lol3:

I'm sure the little babies will feel better once they get the KMR!

Thank you
I think Curly's death opened my eyes to just how fragile these little guys are. I very much regret that I was unable to get him to a vet to have a feeding tube inserted. That would have saved him. I just was completely unprepared for this.

RIP Curly

RIP Curly
Having a feeding tube inserted into a kitten that small would have been difficult and would probably have had the same outcome. Bottle feeding babies is difficult and even if you do everything the exact same way, you will still lose some and others will thrive. It's just how it goes. The baby was warm, loved and cared for, not laying on a cold slab of concrete freezing to death....that is what is important. Do not feel bad in any way. It happens to even the most seasoned veterans

:yeah: That EXACTLY. I doubt a vet would have inserted a feeding tube on a baby that small. It's a sad reality, but RAFM is right. :heart3: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I don't know, I just read somewhere it's an option for orphaned babies who won't eat. I'm just thankful Larry and Mo are doing well

:hugs:.... for you :heart3: I don't know much about orphaned kitten's - but I have never heard of a vet that would tube feed one :(. Even at the shelter - we get orphaned kittens and some of them just do not make it no matter how experienced the caretaker is. Same for orphaned puppies. I have seen my share of those poor babies pass away - they just were not strong enough to sustain life. I am just glad that Mo and Larry are thriving :bigthumb: Hope the babies are doing great tonight! :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
