I used to stare and stare at the Sasha dolls, the ones by Trenton at the expensive toy store behind the glass. They were $60 back then.

Of course to make up for it I have like 5 or 6 now. I'm still searching for a harlequin one at a decent price.

Oh you made me think of another Karen!  I always wanted a Kitty Surprise!  They were sooooo cute with the little kittens!  DH got one for me a few years ago.  It's packed away at the moment; but I do love it!

My dad was a Ph.D student when I was young, so while we weren't so poor we went without, we didn't ask for big things. The one thing I remember wanting that I didn't get (I'm sure there were others LOL) was a Pooh Bear.
I got a beautiful teddy bear that I grew to love - but it wasn't Pooh.
Oh Laurie I just got DD a really sweet good size Pooh Bear!  DH and I found it on clearance at Target a few weeks ago for like $11.  She has a small one that is in the basket of a stuffed hot air balloon hanging in her room.  It hung in my nursery when I was a baby too.  Its supposed to have a mouse in there; which is lost among all my toys and things from when I was a kid in Mom's attic!  But she has Pooh looking down at her in her bed.  And come Christmas she'll have a nice size one to snuggle with!  I'd have gotten one sooner; but they can be expensive for a stuffed toy!

A Barbie.  I got knock-offs.  But I wanted a Barbie.  Mom was always into "Why should you get what everyone else is getting?"  So I told her many years ago that it bothered me a little that I never got a Barbie Doll.  She gave me one for Christmas about 10 years ago!!  Cracked me up!!!

I got knock offs too! I had "Tammy." Who the heck was Tammy???

I's ok though. We didn't have any money. My Mom didn't tell us though. She made us think that pancakes for supper was a treat. :)

My family was rather poor growing up so my expectations were pretty low. I was happy to get clothes.

I did get an EZ Bake oven one Christmas (not sure who gave it to me). My best friend convinced me one day that we needed to make up the cake mixes and eat the dough raw rather than cooking it. When mom caught us, she took the oven away from me. I'm not sure that I ever even baked a cake in it, but it sure taught me not to abuse my toys!

The only thing I can think of wanting, but probably never told my parents about it was the Barbie convertible car. A friend of mine had one and I thought it was cool. She also had one of the coolest doll houses I've ever seen (her father made it for her). I got to play with her toys, so never asked to have them myself.

Yeaaaaah, I wanted and EZbake too.
I did have an EZ Bake oven when I was about 4 or so. I don't think my Mom and Dad got it for me because money was tight. It might have been a gift from one of my Aunts or Uncles.

I remember it came with a certain number of mixes and when they ran out you had to buy more.  But we couldn't afford to buy more. I remember my Mom spending hours in the kitchen fiddling with recipes until she got it just right so that I could use real ingredients from the kitchen and bake my cakes under the light bulb. I still have a picture or 2 of me all big smiles, stiring my cake batter for my oven,  LOL

Supernintendo!!!

My parents insisted I go out to play, and video games indoors was antisocial and lame.   But they gave me an allowance that I converted into quarters to play street fighter and other supernintendo titles on the arcades instead heheh!

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I wanted an EZ Bake oven as well. When I was 19, I bought one. Made a couple of things and realized I made better from scratch that I learned to bake in the real oven!!

I also wanted a Lite-Brite. Never did get one of those. Also, I remember being in about 7th grade and begging my mom for a Cabbage Patch Doll. Nope... not a chance.

Someone mentioned a Pooh Bear. My mom was a really good seamstress. She made me a Pooh Bear and a Paddington Bear. I still have both. Probably better made than the ones in the store! I think Pooh is still down at my parents house, but Paddington came with me after my last trip down there. Raincoat and hat and all!

Oh, dear.  I've thought of something else.  The toy I wanted most of all.  The gift that in my eyes surpassed all others:  a Play Doh Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop.
  My cousin Debbie had one.

Never wanted the EZ Bake oven as I had access to the real one in the kitchen.

I was lucky and had a Barbie (and a couple of her friends) but I always wanted the outfits and accessories from the store and Sears Christmas catalog. Mom made all my Barbie clothes (and used velcro closures before the manufacturer did). And the shoes! I kept getting the cheap knockoffs that would never stay on.

I also wanted an archery set. Learned it at Girl Scout camp and was good at it. But Dad didn't think it was safe.

You know, I'm sure there was something I wanted and never received, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. However, I do remember myself and my siblings drooling over the Sears Wish Book every holiday season. Thanks for bringing back a warm childhood memory!

I just realised I am old - by the time Barbie came along, I was, at least in my mind, past the age of dolls.

I thought Cabbage Patch dolls were about the ugliest thing going, and the crowd to get them - EGADS!!! any adult without kids wouldn't go near any store that sold them. My one brush with this weird phenomenon was at a large mall in Calgary - wanted to go to Woolco for some reason and couldnt get in the door......line was way out into the mall.

So many toys listed that seem like they were heavily advertised yesterday........yep, getting old and STILL want a train set: nice steam locomotive, tender, mixed cars and a caboose................ *SIGH*

The gift I wanted as a kid and never got was a pair of plastic high heels. I don't know whether you had these in America, but they were popular as gifts for little girls in the fifties in England where I grew up. They were slip-on high heels and they had little sparkles in them I think. I thought they were the coolest thing, but never received them as a gift.

007 spy kit. My dad never liked the James Bond movies and he also said it was a boy's toy. Most of my friends were boys and they all had the kits. They shared some with me but it was frustrating.
