What toy did you always want as a child, but never received?

Last Thanksgiving we were sitting around the table and the conversation turned to what we wanted as kids but never got. I always wanted a Snoopy SnoCone Maker and an EZ Bake Oven. My mother started arguing with me that I never wanted an EZ Bake oven. rolleyes.gif I did. laughing02.gif For Christmas my brother and his daughters got me an EZBake Oven. clap.giflaughing02.gif I've been trying to get as many of the Thanksgiving desserts that I can made and in the freezer because next week will be crazy. I've done all I can with the "real" desserts, so I have pulled out my EZBake oven and have made a little cake today and I have sugar cookeis in there right now. laughing02.gif

What did you always want?

The big Barbie dream house!  The one with the elevator!  My cousin had one.  It just didn't seem fair! laughing02.gif

Nintendo!  I swear my brother and I were the only kids in school that didn't have it.

I can't think off hand.  We were quite poor when I was a kid and there wasn't anything for extras, even things like bath soap. My Mom made her own soap and it was used for not only washing bodies and hair, but also clothing too.

Since we didn't have much money, we learned to not ask for much.

I can tell you my favourite Christmas present as a kid.  I remember I had been wanting to learn how to play the piano. The lady across the street taught piano, and my brother was allowed to have trumpet lessons and then later drum lessons. But because he was getting those, there was no money left for me to get any music lessons.  Either that year or the next year I got a 15 key, 6 cord electric organ and 2 song books. The organ had numbers above the keys and cords, and the songs had notes, but also numbers.

I never did learn how to read music or play the piano, but to this day I can still play every one of those songs in both of those books on any keyboard, provided I pick out 15 keys, because I remember the number sequence of the songs :)

laughing02.gif I had one of those, but it was used, and my parents threw it out. :O
Does it have to be a toy? What I always wanted was something like this: 300 I prayed every night for one of these things!

Truthfully, I was always very, very lucky. We never had a lot of money, but when it came to Christmas, Mom always went all out and got us pretty much everything we asked for, even if she had to go deep in debt to do so. We never had much throughout the year, but at Christmas, it was more than made up for!

Now as an adult, Mom STILL goes all out, however now I get to spoil her as well, and I always make sure that she has plenty of gifts under the tree and do all I can to make HER Christmas special. heartpump.gif

My dad was a Ph.D student when I was young, so while we weren't so poor we went without, we didn't ask for big things. The one thing I remember wanting that I didn't get (I'm sure there were others LOL) was a Pooh Bear. agree.gif I got a beautiful teddy bear that I grew to love - but it wasn't Pooh.

An "I Dream of Jeannie" doll and lamp.  The lamp was pink and had the little circle couch in it.  I saw it once in a store (probably long after they stopped filming the show) and never found it again.  I looked it up online a few years ago just to make sure it was just as great as I'd imagined.  (For the record, it was.)

A new bicycle.  I never had a new bicycle of my own until I earned the money and bought it myself, when I was 16.

Yeaaaaah, I wanted and EZbake too. sigh.gif

I had Barbies, My Little Pony, Cabbage Patch dolls up the wazoo. I usually only wanted one specific toy each year that I got...Cept that darn oven. I admit though, I've contemplated buying it a few times as an adult. laughing02.gif

I always wanted a doll house, but I knew it was too much money. I didn't get an ez bake oven. my mom bought me the little cake mixes and helped me use the real oven. I thought I was pretty special.

Mine wasn't a toy, it was a pair of winter riding boots.laughing02.gif

I used to ride and froze when I trained in the winter, so I asked for winter riding boots. Since my P's owned thier own business, and didn't get any shopping money until we closed on the 24th, thy had to wait until the afternoon of the 24th to shop. And, the tack shop closed at noon.  rolleyes.gif

So that Christmas, I got pretty much everything else I wanted and a picture of the boots I wanted in a card with an IOU. laughing02.gif

Then life got in the way and I never did get those boots, there was always something I'd would rather have. Mom and I still joke today about what a great gift they were.

I think that's really neat that you have your EZBake oven now! And that you're using it!

Both my sister and I received our EZBake ovens and we did play with them. But I wasn't interested in cooking much at all. You see, I was going to be a lawyer and I was going to make enough money that I could hire a cook. Me cook? Not for all the money in the world....that was simply not going to happen. As I got older, my grandmother tried desperately to get me interested in cooking. Nope. I was not going to cook. She kept telling me that I needed to learn. No, I did not.....I was going to hire a cook! And I was adamant about that. (I'm not a lawyer....and I love to cook. Go figure. I think that, in a way, Grandma would be proud.)

Anyway, what my sister and I really wanted, we didn't receive as children. But it wasn't a toy; we wanted a swimming pool. Never got one. Today, we each have our pools. Right after we built our house, we installed our pool. And they did the same thing.

I can't think of a dang thing that I wanted, and never got. I always got what I asked for, and more. Man me and my sister was spoiled!

I always wanted a puppy but since we lived in an apartment, my dad wouldn't allow it.  I didn't adopt a puppy until I was married.

A train set - used to drool over them in the Simpson-Sears and Eaton's Christmas cataloges, but I never got one because they were not girl's toys.........always got some stinkin' doll.

I have to say there wasn't anything really....I was a spoilt brat!!!  laughing02.gif

I used to stare and stare at the Sasha dolls, the ones by Trenton at the expensive toy store behind the glass. They were $60 back then.

Of course to make up for it I have like 5 or 6 now. I'm still searching for a harlequin one at a decent price.

Oh you made me think of another Karen!  I always wanted a Kitty Surprise!  They were sooooo cute with the little kittens!  DH got one for me a few years ago.  It's packed away at the moment; but I do love it!  agree.gif

Oh Laurie I just got DD a really sweet good size Pooh Bear!  DH and I found it on clearance at Target a few weeks ago for like $11.  She has a small one that is in the basket of a stuffed hot air balloon hanging in her room.  It hung in my nursery when I was a baby too.  Its supposed to have a mouse in there; which is lost among all my toys and things from when I was a kid in Mom's attic!  But she has Pooh looking down at her in her bed.  And come Christmas she'll have a nice size one to snuggle with!  I'd have gotten one sooner; but they can be expensive for a stuffed toy!

A Barbie.  I got knock-offs.  But I wanted a Barbie.  Mom was always into "Why should you get what everyone else is getting?"  So I told her many years ago that it bothered me a little that I never got a Barbie Doll.  She gave me one for Christmas about 10 years ago!!  Cracked me up!!! clap.giflaughing02.gifwoohoo.gif

I got knock offs too! I had "Tammy." Who the heck was Tammy???

I's ok though. We didn't have any money. My Mom didn't tell us though. She made us think that pancakes for supper was a treat. :)

My family was rather poor growing up so my expectations were pretty low. I was happy to get clothes.

I did get an EZ Bake oven one Christmas (not sure who gave it to me). My best friend convinced me one day that we needed to make up the cake mixes and eat the dough raw rather than cooking it. When mom caught us, she took the oven away from me. I'm not sure that I ever even baked a cake in it, but it sure taught me not to abuse my toys!

The only thing I can think of wanting, but probably never told my parents about it was the Barbie convertible car. A friend of mine had one and I thought it was cool. She also had one of the coolest doll houses I've ever seen (her father made it for her). I got to play with her toys, so never asked to have them myself.

I did have an EZ Bake oven when I was about 4 or so. I don't think my Mom and Dad got it for me because money was tight. It might have been a gift from one of my Aunts or Uncles.

I remember it came with a certain number of mixes and when they ran out you had to buy more.  But we couldn't afford to buy more. I remember my Mom spending hours in the kitchen fiddling with recipes until she got it just right so that I could use real ingredients from the kitchen and bake my cakes under the light bulb. I still have a picture or 2 of me all big smiles, stiring my cake batter for my oven,  LOL
