So I'm out of town right now and my mom is looking after my cats. The one cat has a bacterial infection from a URI so I called the vet to get some antibiotics. My mom went in to pick up the prescribed liquid Amoxicillin and when she got home she realized that it had not been mixed with water, it was just powder in a bottle with a medicine dropper. She called me and I tried to call the vet but I can't reach them, I keep getting a busy signal. The box the medicine came in has instructions for mixing and it says to add 14 mL of water and shake well. Should I have my mom add the water or should I continue trying to call the vet? My only concern here is that I've never been given just the powder before, every vet clinic I've ever been to has always mixed it for me. I suspect that the assistant/receptionist didn't know to mix it or that she simply forgot. I'm actually hesitant about my mom going back to have them mix it because I don't trust the knowledge of that particular assistant.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

She can go ahead and mix it if she has a way to measure 14ml precisely. She could probably use the dropper since they're usually marked in ml. Distilled water would be best, or bottled water if she doesn't have distilled. You never know what might be in tap water that would react with the medication.

for your baby to get well soon.

I still haven't been able to reach the vet all day. They use Comcast phone and Mom says the cable TV has been out all day so I guess I know why I can't get through.
Anyway... The tap water where I live is well water and full of minerals. So is it really important to use distilled? Mom says she won't be able to get to the store until Thursday. Ugh! What a pain. And my poor kitty is ill.

Unsure what you mean by store...
Faced with this, I'd approach my local pharmacy, explain the situation and ask for the courtesy of them mixing the solution for me.
Could your Mom do that?

As MuezettesMom said, anything is better than nothing. Does your mom have a neighbor who might have bottled water she can borrow? If not, she could go ahead and use tap water. If your cats normally drink the tap water it shouldn't cause any harm to use that. The most likely reaction would be to precipitate the medication out, not to inactivate it. That means she would have to shake the bottle really well before she draws up the liquid in the dropper each time.
Once you get hold of the vet, ask if it's okay to keep giving your kitty the antibiotic mixed with tap water. Make sure you talk to the vet, not an assistant. If he/she says no, the vet's office should give you a new supply at no extra charge since it was their error.
Sending more calming and get well
