I think he's sick :(

All day today cynder has seem to been sleeping, and he also has not been to the litter box since 7 am this morning. he has only really snacked a bit on his food and just doesn't seem himself today :( he did drink a bit of water this afternoon and ate a tiny bit of wet food. somethings up and i just don't know what it is, but im getting worried.

Just keep an eye on him.  Take a quick look around the house to be sure you're not missing any parts to any toys that he might have swallowed, there aren't any chemicals he might have gotten into, no houseplants have been chewed on, etc.  Keep the litter box clean so that you can see if he uses it.  Throw out any food or water in his bowls, clean the bowls carefully, and put fresh food and water in them.

Since he can't tell you what's going on, you have to depend on detective work!

But, just like people, cats have moods and "off days," too.

i think i figured out wht it is, he doesn't seem to like his dry food anymore!!! he only ate a little of it last night, and this morning i put out more wet and he seemed to eat it all. should i find another dry food? i am at work for 10 hrs a day so i can't just feed him wet!!!! What do I do????????????????????????????

OH our little finicky babies laughing02.gif What they like one day, they turn their noses up the next. That is how my amidala.gif Perla is agree.gif. I would just leave the dry down as usual while you are at work and see. Maybe Cynder did just feel a little off and the wet food was more appetizing. If it keeps with with this batch of dry, then you certainly could try another dry food. What brand of dry do you feed?

Got a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

cynder has decided he does NOT like his dry BB and would rather eat his wellness wet rolleyes.gif..argh. he is about 7-8months old.. if I feed him the wellness (3oz pouches) how much should i feed him. im guessing he is probably about 8 pds. and how do i feed him when I'm at work for 10 hrs a day. right now he would eat a bit of wet at about 5am, and then eat dry till i got home then around 7pm have some more wet.. Should i feed him 1 full pouch in the morning and then 1 full pouch at night or what. he is VERY stubborn and will not touch the dry all day. is he going to be starving by the time i get home? and what do i do about this situation? I cannot come home on lunch to put more wet down so what do i do during the day.. or should i switch brands of dry to something else and see if he will eat it.

HI:). Saw you other thread this morning too. I do know people who only feed their cat's a twice daily meal. AM and PM. I know that is not what you want to do, but he won't starve is you have to do that until you can figure out a new dry brand of food. You could also try to mix some of your dry food in with the wet food in the AM and see if Cynder will eat that all up. My cat's get a little dry with the wet mixed together for the AM meal. Just something to try. I cannot leave food out, my cat's get scheduled meals. I have two piggies who gorge themselves laughing02.gif. I am not sure about the Wellness pouches and how much to feed. I used to use those pouches and mix it with some dry too. Then my cat's got picky about the chunks in the pouches rolleyes.gif. vibes.gifvibes.gif

Hun, didn't you want the cat to eat wet food? I would be happy sigh.gif? Perhaps, I am confused.

.argh. he is about 7-8months old.. if I feed him the wellness (3oz pouches) how much should i feed him. im guessing he is probably about 8 pds. and how do i feed him when I'm at work for 10 hrs a day.

I would say feed him one full pouch before you leave for work. Then at least, one more when you come home.

right now he would eat a bit of wet at about 5am, and then eat dry till i got home then around 7pm have some more wet.. Should i feed him 1 full pouch in the morning and then 1 full pouch at night or what.

That sounds very reasonable to me agree.gif.

he is VERY stubborn and will not touch the dry all day. is he going to be starving by the time i get home?

If he is, then he will eat the dry food.  So, just make sure to leave it down for him. I have not seen many healthy cats starve themselves to death.

and what do i do about this situation? I cannot come home on lunch to put more wet down so what do i do during the day.. or should i switch brands of dry to something else and see if he will eat it.

I would just feed him one full pouch before you leave for work. Then, leave out the BB dry food, so he can eat it when you are gone. Then, feed him another pouch when you come home from work rub.gif.

Please note, my responses are in bold type.

i just put  some more wet down and he licked the gravy and walked off, i am leaving out the dry and the we he has yet to eat and will just hope for the best. what do i do with the BIG bag of dry if he will not eat it, can i donate it somewhere?

I had to go to my natural pet food store this morning and they have the Wellness pouches. The owner also said two pouches a day is right. So, I agree with Cat Person, one pouch in the AM and one pouch in the PM and just leave the dry out during the day. Cynder will eat it he is hungry while you are at work agree.gif. As for the big bag of food, Did you just open it? Maybe it is a bad bag since Cynder is turning his nose up to it. You could return it agree.gif. I have done that, especially if it was just opened. Most reputable pet stores will replace the bag for you agree.gif

Cats, being carnivores , do not need to eat constantly like herbivores do so if you give your cat two meals of wet, that imperfectly fine. However, if cynder starts to lose weight, them feed 1.5 pouches per meal. They do not need dry food so if cynder is not eating the dry, all the better. I feed my one cat three 3 meals of 1/2 can food every 8 hours and my other cat two meals 12 hours apart and they are doing fine. Yes they are hungry but certainly not starving. Both are in good condition even the one with CRF. Cynder is probably holding out for the good wet stuff. Smart cat.

nope he barley touched the wet i left for him this morning, and ate only a little of the dry all day. thought he would be hungry, so i just put down a half pouch of wet, and he licked a bit then left it. he only has used the litter box to poop today, now im wondering if he maybe has a uti or something, he seems playful and normal but no pee yet, and i noticed he is not drinking alot of water lately.. do there eating habits slow down like this at his age or is there something up?

im gonna cry soon!!!

i can't take it anymore. Cynder has become so picky about his food and i really don't know what to do? He is barely touching any of his food wet or dry!!! He has lost some weight in the past few days and im really worried...I have tried every brand under the sun and he just won' eat it, or should i say he takes a few bits and thats it. i was up all last night worrying about him cuz im at a complete loss of what to do..He is healthy i know that, he will eat treats and stuff like its going out of style. i tried putting crumbled up treats on his food and will just take a few bites and walk away.. i wanna cry and i can't do this anymore, i just don't know what to do anymore..

Aww hun I know how you feel. We do so much for these guys and they don't seem to realize that when they don't do as expected we go through emotional rollercoasters. I do the same thing alright.gif

I don't really know what to suggest, just offering support for what you're going through. Do you think he needs a vet trip? Is he going to the bathroom alright? Maybe his teeth hurt? I find that Loki doesn't chow down like he used to. When he's being a bum I'll play with him a bit then put him infront of the food. Sometimes more than once. Once he starts eating he realizes that he likes it. Have you tried using the kibbles as treats? Isis doesn't know the difference if you throw them for her. She'll gobble them up as long as you throw them for her.

I hope things get better for you. I don't think he'd starve himself.

AW hun hugs.gif. I do know that feeling agree.gif.... I am not sure what to think now about this. You say she eats treats like mad but won't touch her food. There is a product (a natural food store only item) called Stella/Chewey's freeze-dried raw cubes. A safe raw. You could try to use something like that, or a treat and crumble it over the food to get her eating. I just have to wonder if there really is something medically going on frown2.gif. Sometimes, even if they are not well, they will still eat kitty treats and such, but not food.... I think if this goes on for another day, since this was a sudden change in her eating pattern, a vet visit would be a good idea. Just to make sure. hugs.gifhugs.gif and vibes.gifvibes.gif to Cynder heartpump.gif

Stop giving in to him.

Put down a food that he has eaten before and leave it down until the next meal time. If there is any left throw it out and put the same thing down again.

If he ate it before he'll eat it again. As long as you are sure he isn't sick or course and since you say he is eating treats he must not be sick.

I've read back through your past few threads and merged them.

Are you sure this isn't health=related?

Is the dry a brand new bag?

update on cynder: he now has decided he wants his bb WET instead of wellness wet, and for it to be mixed with his bb dry before he will eat (SIGH), what a picky cat. thank god i still had some bb wet in the cupboard, but man what is up with this cat, hes so picky, and is it normal for cats to do this. im giving him some tough love right now and only feed him wet mixed with dry in the morning, and hen he is left with just dry till i get home from work around 7pm where he will get a mix of wet and dry again. im tired of catering to him with his food, so im hoping that because he is soo stuborn that he will not eat his dry that he will be sttarving by the time i get home at night that at least he will eat a big amount of wet/dry and gain some weight back. what a pain in the ass but istill love him..

He should be fine with the two meals a day. And hungry when you get home from work agree.gif. I would mix the dry in with the wet and you could add a tiny bit of warm water once he is eating that up well. I hope this works for him long term, but sometimes they will decide they don't like it that way either anymore. With cat's, though, you have to make sure they don't go without food, ever. Even if it comes to syringe feeding, Cynder must eat. I have had to become so creative (with my old dog) in trying things to get him to eat. Yes, it is a real big PITA, but I will do. We love our furkids, for sure biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif
