I rescued a kitten in front of my condo building 11-11-11. Friday night she stayed in the bathroom, Ritz knew she was in there, crouched a little, but no other reaction. Took Autumn to vets, she has a clean bill of health, got all required shots, including deworming. Roughly seven weeks old.
Based upon people who have taken care of cats/kittens for years, "Autumn" was probably born to an indoor/outdoor cat and as such has been around humans. No hissing, just hiding. Feel asleep in my friend's arms last night (who has a much bigger house).
I rescued Ritz when she was about four to six months old (in front of my condo building) two years ago, my friend socialized her. I adopted her. She's been an 'only child'. I dote on her. Important note: Ritz has stress-induced FLUTD.
I put Autumn in the cat carrier in the kitchen and observed Ritz' reaction. She sniffed the (now smelling) cat carrier, yawned. So I opened up the cat carrier and held Autumn in my hands, close to me. And watched what Ritz did. She sniffed even more the cat carrier, almost to the point of getting into it. Later more yawning, Ritz' tail wrapped around her legs. I packed Autumn up and she is now with my friend (the same one who rescued/socialized Ritz.) I'm thinking of fostering/adopting Autumn. I hope that Autumn can calm Ritz down, who is still afarid of sudden noises. And provide entertainment when I'm at work nine hours a day.
Question: based on Ritz' initial reaction, how should I proceed with the introductions. My thinking is to put a pet gate between the bathroom door and the hallway and note Ritz' reaction. Given her health issues, should I even attempt this fostering/adoption?
Thanks. Meanwhile, I'll hit the internet for general info about kittens and introductions.
