odd behavior from the big guy and little guy

my older cat is 4..when he was younger he had fun with rubber tubing..I had several feet of rubber tubing ,about 1/4" in diameter,  and would cut it off in 5" strips and tie it in a knot...would throw it down the hallway and he would chase it almost endlessly..after a while he tired of that and moved on to another toy..

Now I have a little guy who is just over 1 yr and they get along great..absolutely no problems..the little guy also loves to chase this toy...but here is whats been going on lately..if the older cat gets ahold of the knotted rubbber tubing, he will chew on it for however it long it takes to get the knot out...dont know how he does it...I'm guessing that this is jealousy on his part although I have tried to get him to chase it..

Now when the little guy chases it he wont bring it to me to throw it for him again..he will take it in the kitchen and knock it under the stove, under the pantry door or go in the laundry room and knock it under the washer or dryer..is this his way of protecting his toy from the older cat?

Sorry, but I had a chuckle imagining the scene smile.gif

I imagine the little guy just plays differently - not many cats will bring you back a toy to throw again! I would just have lots of rubber tubing - some to throw to the little guy to knock around in the kitchen, and more to throw to your other kitty to play fetch with while the little guy is doing his own thing.

maybe I explained it wrong..the little guy would bring it back to me all the time just to have me throw it down the hallway again for him to chase..now he takes it into the kitchen/laundry room and knocks it under the stove, pantry door, dryer or washer, almost on purpose...then he cries to get me to go get it for him..
