Loki needs Vibes and so do I !

Hey Folks,

I came home from working to find Loki in his cat safe room, with blood ALL over! He must have gotten his tail stuck in a blind or under furniture. I am not sure which.

Well, I rushed him to the clinic and they preformed surgery. He is missing part of his tail, since you could see the bone and stitching that area is pointless. Pointless medically, plus he would just tare that area even worse then it was.

He did survive anesthesia, which is my major concern since he is a hybrid (I know a lot of you will fight me on the issue that he is a normal cat). But so far, so good. I am staying with him tonight, then I will take him home tomorrow. Cone and all biggrin.gif.

Vibes that he does not have a URI flareup that is major, that he leaves the tail alone (does not "self amputate"), and that I live threw the event.

Vibes to you and Loki! I'm sure he'll be ok. And you will too! Could you give him some Enisyl(Lysine) to keep the URI bugs away?

Well he is a cat, hybrid or not! But he is your love so it doesn't matter whether he's hybrid, or whatever!

On no! Wow, that must have been scary, I'm so so sorry! Poor you, poor Loki! Glad to hear all went well with the surgery, and vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif it heals up without incident!

I am already using it in VERY low amounts, well was laughing02.gif. He will be getting a real lot of it agree.gif. He is my whatever laughing02.gif, but really and truly he is such a good cat. Despite bleeding all over the place, seeing his tail bones, he walked up to me purring. He was NOT the least bit aggressive. I was truly amazed, as was the vet staff. He is all the proof that "wild" is a state of mind. Since as you know, most pure domestics, would be very agitated.  Not my Loki laughing02.gif. As I always say, no brains no clue clap.gif.

Having worked with exotic animals, I am used to seeing blood from "disagreements". But, not in my home catman.gif and not with a lone cat. Thank you for the vibes.

Yea, I was truly in shock. I sure hope for a quick, relatively quite, and of course no complication, healing process. I just hope the cage rest, cone, and general "keeping him calm", does not drive me and him crazy.

I sure hope all goes well, your very smart. So, could you give me suggestions for keeping my crazy cat calm? Keep in mind: I work, he will have a Elizabethan collar on him, he MIGHT try to "help" his tail, and he is just crazy. Tame as you can see from previous post, but so crazy.

Now that I am calmer/more level headed, I remember seeing two Jungle cats, one 75% Jungle cat hybrid, and one Serval that injured its tail to the point that they needed similar sugeries. I remember the Serval that was at the rescue was VERY hard to keep calm. Lets hope Loki the F3 Savannah, is kind of manageable.

His treat is he is still alive woohoo.gif. But seriously, anything to keep him calm. I do mean anything BTW laughing02.gif. Thank you for your concern, I will be taking him home today. Which should be well...interesting to say the least.

Poor me, you mean laughing02.gif. I am the one that will be stuck with a screaming, unhappy, on cage rest, wacko cat. O yes, I pay his medical bills not him laughing02.gif. But really, thank you for your kind and concern.

Day one after surgery.

Well keeping him on cage rest was well insane laughing02.gif. So, when I can directly supervise him, I have been letting him play with me in his "cafe safe room".  The real "issue" is he feels too good. Minus the fact, it is a little hard for him to sit, he seem fine. He is eating well, drinking well so far too. He has urinated one time, as well as defecated. I am hoping I come home to a "wet litter box". Since I am VERY PARANOID, about his kidneys.

Anyway, I am just doing this as a "journal", so if anyone wants to comment fine. If not, that is fine too happy.gif.

Glad to hear Loki is home and has pooped and peed. Always grounds for celebration. No signs of a URI? That's great too!

Continued vibes! vibes.gifvibes.gif Loki

Wow, that would have been scary!

So glad he is home, hope he heals quickly vibes.gif

Yup, I use the threads for my cats' health issues as journals too. Just remember to copy them into a word document or something at various points in case something happens to the site. cross.gif

Great he feels so good - but I know it makes it that much more difficult. laughing02.gif

Actually, I have NO suggestions for how to keep him calm. When Tuxedo had surgery and then was going to need a blood transfusion, they sent him home with us, because he does so much better here than at the vet, and we're not completely inexperienced. But they sent him home with that port taped in his arm, so OBVIOUSLY he had a collar on. He went crazy trying to get it off, and the ONLY solution was to take it off. At the time we didn't work from home, and we simply had to go on shifts so he had supervision all night, and we took off work the next day so we could stay with him until we took him back to the other vet for the transfusion. We (obviously) had to stop him from playing with that port!!!!!!!

But if I were alone dealing with it... and it required more than one day and one night LOL... I don't know what I would have done!!!!!

Just sending more vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif that despite the crazies, he'll let it heal!

Yea, I just wish you where closer, so you could see what a wacko he really is.

Thank you anyway hun, I did spend the night with him the vets office. He was so nutty, he could not even handle the IV.  Since he has been home, he is like a "kitten again". That means completely uncontrollable, plus even larger.

He has been pretty good about leaving it alone. But, just like a dog with an insured tail, he is at real risk of  harming it from hitting it into walls and so on.

Okay, day three after surgery is not going very well. I am VERY worried, so what follows is my venting/concerns. Now, let me start off with saying, I am very paranoid about Loki in general. This I am aware of, just so you all know.

Anyway,  yesterday he ate about half a cup of dry food but not his mouse. He played with it and killed it but did not eat it. He also only urinated one time, as best I can figure. He normally urinates twice a day.

Today, before I left for work he did not eat his mouse nor his dry food. He played with the mouse and killed it, but yet again did not eat it. He ate about twenty pieces of dry food, before I left. But that was all. He is still drinking "normally" (it is hard to tell since he spills and plays in it). He is NOT dehydrated right now. So, that is a plus.

I of course called my "cat vet" and exotic vet ( the one I take the small exotic mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians to). They both think I am losing my grip on "reality". My cat vet said so, I work for him, so its fine agree.gif.

The breeder and my own experience with hybrids and pure exotics has taught me that they can just starve themselves to death under some circumstances. I have seen normal healthy Bobcats do this. Even upon necropsy, they seemed healthy. I really do not want to see my Loki go that way, but I know it can happen.

So in closing, LDG, Carolina, Feralver, Sharky and one anyone else please give me your thoughts.

You and Loki remain in my thoughts.vibes.gifvibes.gifhugs.gif

Still praying for Loki, keep us posted. I don't think you're losing your grip, I think it is perfectly natural to be concerned and fret and watch and worry. I'm the same way, I guess that's why I think so.

Yea, that is why to you it is normal laughing02.gif. I tend NOT to be like that with the cats, at least in general. Anyway, I asked one of my friends to go over and check on him while I was at work. She said he was his normal insane self clap.gif. She got him to eat almost all his dry food, by the time I got home. She also said he urinated twice while she was around. I know he urinated another time while I was home too. So, yesterday ended up much better then it started.

Today, before I left for work he killed and ATE his mouse. I am also fairly sure he urinated. He is acting like his normal wacko self too clap.gif. So, all and all today seems better. I am thinking yesterday was just his normal "fasting" day. Which he has done naturally since about six months old.

As always, thank you for listening.

Your very lucky you missed it laughing02.gif. But, I am glad you saw it because, it shows what keeping this type of cat can entail.

vibes.gifto you and Loki

Thank you very much.

... I don't even want to know what he did to lose half his tail...

I am glad you do not want to know, since I have no idea how it happened laughing02.gif. I just know what I came home from work to see.

makes me wonder what Neka could get into...

I hope less stuff then Loki. But they are always into something, Which is just insane or enough to drive you insane.

Anyways I'm glad he seems to be on the road to recovery...

Me too agree.gif!

do you know how long it's supposed to be until the tail heals?

It will take months, since he is too wacko, to aid in the healing process.

Please note, my responses are in bold.

months?! oh that's just cruel for it to take months... (sends healing powers loki's way) was hoping you'd say a couple of weeks...
