My big boy Gus is losing hair on his back. I noticed clumps of fur around the house. I thought he was shedding. He is his happy old self, just losing hair. any thoughts or ideas on what could be causing this ?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Aw, poor Gus! How old is he? There are actually a lot of things that can cause hair loss - hyperthyroidism and cushings are among them, so if he hasn't been to the vet recently for blood work, it's time for a trip. They can also do other tests to see what's causing the alopecia: http://www.cat-world.com.au/hair-loss-in-cats

Well he's young! But there are just so many things it could be, I'd still take him, for peace of mind if nothing else.

I think I found the problem. He has some grease on his back. DH is a heavy-duty mechanic, Gus must have gotten some off of his clothes. His likes to hang out in the laundry basket. I tried to wash it off, but it didn't work. I will buy some Dawn dish soap tomorrow. This was Gus's first bath, not a good sight.
