In House Marking

HI,

Our cat Oscar has turned to marking in our home we've been trying to correct this behavior for at least 6mos.  We're torn about what to do with him. He's also been attacking our other 2 cats.  He has mildly injured our calico.  The problem is, he's super sweet with us and the kids, and if we take him to the humane society they will put him down.  The cat rescues in our area (as in most) are full.  So we're left with 2 options, turn him outdoors and keep him in the garage in the winter, or have him put down.  And we have worked with our vet to cure/change these issues but nothing has worked.  We've been dealing with this for the past year.  Need to do something, and of course we'd prefer to rehome him or turn him outdoors before having him put down.  Just I struggle with what's more humane in the long run.  Ugh so hard!

We're wanting to turn him outdoors and keep him in the garage, but are afraid of other animals in the neighborhood and the cars etc.  All those very real dangers and of course keeping him warm enough in the winter months which are fast approaching.

If anyone has any great resources for this transition or helpful ideas and etc.  please share.

Also, if we're going to turn him outdoors, it would be nice to get some pet insurance on him, does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks!

I would say, take the cat to a licensed veterinarian you trust. He might have a UTI, hence the marking behavior. But, he also might be "upset" by the other cats, hence attaching them. That also could be why he is marking.

I would say, that he MIGHT be happier in a home with him as an only cat. Was he an indoor/outdoor cat ever in his life? If so, letting him outdoors and then in the garage, sounds good to me. Two of my cats are indoor/outdoor and are very happy.

Medication can help sprayers. Ask your vet about the different options. And don't give up after trying only one med. . .it sometimes takes some experimenting to find the right one.
