Interesting!  I went to Virginia to meet Annie Dillard about 35+ years ago - right after her book Pilgrim at Tinker Creek came out.  I was entranced with it.  I tracked her down, knocked on her door, and she graciously spent the afternoon with me - at Tinker Creek!  She signed by copy of the book, of course, too.

And I've actually read all of Remembrance of Things Past.  Haven't met Proust, though.  laughing02.gif

My user name is because I am Bastet's servant - and servant to all her handmaidens.  They make me work hard.  But, I am so devoted to this goddess and them, that I don't mind.

Nova is our first cat. When hubby and I first moved in together, he said we could have just one.

Now we have 4 indoors-only and 3-4 feral outdoors.

Well my user name is really basic.....Cheyenne+link= cheylinkwink.gif

Maia's name comes from the Roman Goddess

"Maia is the Oscan Earth-Goddess, and an ancient Roman Goddess of springtime, warmth, and increase. She causes the plants to grow through Her gentle heat, and the month of May is probably named for Her."

Her birthday is in May, and she gave me life!heart.gif

It's my nickname smile.gif

As to my cats:

Joji - my senior cat, named by my son when we moved in our present home more than 14 years ago. Joji was a feral living in the property.

Ichi, Ni, San - means 1,2,3 in Japanese. They're part of the 5 kittens I rescued (Yon (4) and Go (5) passed away).

Buddy - When I rescued him, he was with another cat - Ashley (in Rainbow Bridge). They were both adult cats. So I decided that all the adult cats that I would rescue from then on would be in alphabetical consecutive order. laughing02.gif I think that since the names Ashley and Buddy just seemed to have popped in my head, it's likely those are the names they wanted.

Exactly, I am not obsessed with them. I am glad you think I can be a cat person still agree.gif.

There's a dialogue in the movie "Puss In Boots" when Kitty Soft Paws talks about her being declawed and Pussinboots tells her that "cat people are crazy". That response was so totally wrong. No true cat person would maim their cat. Oops sorry if I am derailing the topic of the thread.anon.gif

Peanut is orange-ish! bigwink.gif As for his name, my mom named him- he was hers before he was mine, one of her barn kittens. We call him Goober- back in the Civil War, sometimes people would call peanuts "goober peas". ^^

RAFM = Riley and Fred's Mom

When I first went online so many years ago, Riley and Fred were our only two pets and then I became known on my boards by that moniker and I've just never changed it.

Mystik Spiral is the name of Trent's band in the show Daria. I loved Daria and have been using this handle online for quite a while.

My cat's name... She was given the name Holland at the shelter, and I just loved it. Also, I am not great at naming pets, so I just kept the one she came with! It suits her very well, I couldn't imagine her with any other name.

I have a diabetic cat, and diabetic cats are sometimes referred to as "sugar cats". rub.gif

So cool!!  I'm very jealous.  I have a signed copy of one of her other books, but I got it from a book store. :(  And I definitely didn't get to spend the afternoon with her at Tinker Creek!  What an amazing experience.

I haven't read ANY Proust... my boyfriend actually is the big reader (and the namer of Marcel), but I offered him naming rights in exchange for letting me adopt him.  And Marcel seems to suit him anyways.  laughing02.gif

Mine is a little self explanatory, lol... everything in my life pretty much revolves around cats, I've always had a cat in my life since I can remember, I currently have 4 cats, and my boyfriend always calls me the crazy cat lady.

Peaches' is named so because when he was getting older, his pink nose, and feet pads made him look "peachy"

Kiki is named so because when I was really little I had a stuffed toy cat that purred and I would hold it to my chest and say, "ki-.. ki-.." trying to say kitty.

Whiskie is named so because it took a LONG time for his whiskers to grow in and my mom always called him "no whiskies" lol.

And last, but certainly not least, Oscar is named after the Oscar Meyer wieners.

clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif I love Daria. I was younger when it was on (I'm a late 80's kid) and my mom kept MTV locked so we couldn't watch, but my brothers & I figured out the code and watched Daria, Southpark, and Beavis & Butthead. Oh the 90's! LOL!

My username is from the Simon & Garfunkel song "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" - that famous part that goes "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme."  I discovered Simon & Garfunkel at age 18 and that was the first song by them I had ever heard... S&G and Paul Simon's solo work have been the soundtrack of my life for the last five years, and I have a tattoo on my ankle of leaves of parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.  It's a Very Important Song!! in my life - you get the picture. :)

Well, as for the cats - LOL!  Simon and Garfunkel!  I picked the names years ago and this year when I got my first apartment knew I wanted to adopt a pair of cats so I planned on getting boys that I could name Simon & Garfunkel.  I think the names have been extremely well-suited to their personalities. I think of the S&G song "Old Friends" and think of my boys, who are inextricably bonded but very different.  Simon is an old-fashioned name, and Simon the kitten is a bit curmudgeonly, a bit proper, a bit persnickety, but underneath very sweet and loving the way you would picture an old man.  Garfunkel is a "funky" ;) ethnic name and suits Garfunkel the kitten to a T.  He's blond, lean, and lanky like Garfunkel the man, and is both crazier and sweeter than Simon.  I couldn't picture either kitten being named anything else.

Joni was named for my favorite female vocalist, and one of my favorite folk artists, Joni Mitchell!  She's feisty and independent but very, very sweet and cuddly on her own terms.  I think the name and the namesake suit her. :)

Hmm.  My cats at my parents' house - Pumpkin because he's a big orange tabby, Princess because I always wanted a white kitten named Princess, Caroline was named by my mom, and Bobo because I had a random urge for a little blue gray kitten I'd name Bobo.  LOL!

I used to have 2 cats named Simon and Garfunkel. clap.gif However, I was very young and my mom insisted that they be inside/outside cats, so both of them disappeared after a while. cwm2.gif And Garfunkel never grew past a typical 5-6 month size... so I think something was wrong with him.

But!! I'm glad you have such wonderful kitties. smile.gif

Resqchick= Rescue Chick. It's the nickname I was given when I was a volunteer firefighter. I was in Rescue, and I'm, well, a chick. biggrin.gif

Kairi is a character from "Kingdom Hearts" it supposedly means "Of the sea" in Japanese.

jcat was chosen because variations of Jamie Cat had already been taken when I signed up.

Jamie Cat is so named because he "wears" a tuxedo like James Bond. Miezi came with her name, "Miez" being the German equivalent of "kitty". Her former owners weren't too imaginative with names. Miezi's sister is called Kedi, which is Turkish for "cat", and afaik the origin of our "kitty".

Got the nickname Ducman (duck-man) for riding an old loud Ducati to school since I turned 15 up to second year of college, known as Ducs for short.   Have a patch, vanity plate, and alias for years.

Mine is simple, couldn't really think of a name to use on a cat lover's forum so I used Jazzy, because she was the only cat I had at the time it seemed an easy choice smile.gif

Jazzy should really not be named that, although Rocky would seem a little strange, she hates jazz music but loves to listen to my brother playing the guitar and rub against all the guitar equipment while either of us plays.

Mine is pretty simple, when I went to register I couldn't think of a name, but Panda was trying to walk across the keyboard... So I just made my username after him. Panda himself got the name because as a newborn kitten he looked a lot like a panda bear, him and all his brothers did. ( I'm typeing this on my cell or I would put a picture to show you what I mean) Boo is named so because I found him trick-or-treating as a kid. Everyone else I named because I liked the name and it just seemed to fit them. Although Annabelle was named by the rescue she was adopted from, I liked the name so she kept it.

I use NutroMike because I believe in full disclosure in this and other forums.  Many people are here that work for pet food industries and are here to promote their own agenda but don't disclose it. I am a Pet Nutrition Specialist with the Nutro Company.  My name is Michael.  I don't ordinarily go by Mike but NutroMichael is just too many keystrokes :) I have 4 cats.  Ramsey was already named when I adopted him and he played fetch using that name so I kept it.  Hoot had lots of medical problems when we found her drowning in a mudpuddle. Her head was about 2x the size of her body. She would sit on the back of the sofa blinking and looked just like an owl.  'Bitz is a small cat but talks a lot.  I first thought of naming her Kibbitz but 'Bitz just stuck. Swiffer is pretty self explanatory.  She's always got some kind of dust bunny hanging off of her tail ;) We also have a feral that lives in our garage.  Long story there but her name is Bart.

I found the name Mia when I was looking through a baby name book for cat names. I loved the name and when I got Mia at the shelter I just thought the name fit her. Mia means: My and Wished For Child (cat in my case, lol)
