My boyfriend and I just moved 8 days ago to this 1 bedroom basement apartment. We werent settled in but for months we have been talking about getting cat. We knew we wanted to rescue an adult male, neutered. My bf hoped to find one with big cheeks (ex-tom) and we settled on one in a local rescue. However, we hadn't filled the aplication nor had we contacted them for the cat. Then I was browsing kijiji to see what people we offering. And we found another free neutered cat. I had an appointment set up to meet him and my mom texted me at work telling me her upstairs neighbor was evicted and gone to jail. That his (adult neutered) cat was left outside in the cold and rain without food.
After work that night e picked him up and brought him home. He's skinny, so I think he went without food for some time. One other neighbour accompanied the police onto the premises and they found NO food inside. There were 2 blankets on the porch used for covering garbage and soggy litter in the backyard. The cat had been abandoned with no efforts to place him. It was purr-fect timing.
Oliver (we kept the name) has thus far blended into our home so naturally. He doesn't seem bothered that he cannot go outside (his owner used to always keep him out) he just like to play, eat and sleep in our apartment! He's such a fierce hunter kitty, sneaking up on his cat dancer. He raises his eyebrows in a comical way (reminds me of a capuchin monkey) when he's playing. I have a betta fish and a bunny which he doesn't seem too interested in too.
That's Oliver! I am Amanda, 24 yr old full time History student at Memorial University in Newfoundland (Canada). My bf is 30 yr old Matt. We both always grew up with cats, he being from Nova Scotia so his cats are home and me always simply living with my sister's and mom's cats and never having my "own" (you know, litter and feeding duty). We felt it was the right time to adopt and we're thrilled at the opportunity of saving Ollie as we did
