Me and Ollie :)

My boyfriend and I just moved 8 days ago to this 1 bedroom basement apartment. We werent settled in but for months we have been talking about getting cat. We knew we wanted to rescue an adult male, neutered. My bf hoped to find one with big cheeks (ex-tom) and we settled on one in a local rescue. However, we hadn't filled the aplication nor had we contacted them for the cat. Then I was browsing kijiji to see what people we offering. And we found another free neutered cat. I had an appointment set up to meet him and my mom texted me at work telling me her upstairs neighbor was evicted and gone to jail. That his (adult neutered) cat was left outside in the cold and rain without food.

After work that night e picked him up and brought him home. He's skinny, so I think he went without food for some time. One other neighbour accompanied the police onto the premises and they found NO food inside. There were 2 blankets on the porch used for covering garbage and soggy litter in the backyard. The cat had been abandoned with no efforts to place him. It was purr-fect timing.

Oliver (we kept the name) has thus far blended into our home so naturally. He doesn't seem bothered that he cannot go outside (his owner used to always keep him out) he just like to play, eat and sleep in our apartment! He's such a fierce hunter kitty, sneaking up on his cat dancer. He raises his eyebrows in a comical way (reminds me of a capuchin monkey) when he's playing. I have a betta fish and a bunny which he doesn't seem too interested in too.

That's Oliver! I am Amanda, 24 yr old full time History student at Memorial University in Newfoundland (Canada). My bf is 30 yr old Matt. We both always grew up with cats, he being from Nova Scotia so his cats are home and me always simply living with my sister's and mom's cats and never having my "own" (you know, litter and feeding duty). We felt it was the right time to adopt and we're thrilled at the opportunity of saving Ollie as we did :)ollie 485.JPG

Thanks! :D The site has been wonderful so far! :)

And surprisingly, yes Oliver has been neutered. I guess before his owner's life fell apart he cared very much about Oliver. He has been neutered and is a very friendly sociable cat. He has been outside quite a bit and has therefore been conditioned to fear loud noises (smoke alarm, dogs barking etc.) but he knows when he's in trouble! Just about an hour ago we heard a bang and looked to find Oliver creeping along the kitchen counter and knocked a coffee can into the sink- I said "Ollie, get down" and he did ^.^

**What does it mean if his third eyelid is there?

Ooh, he is SO handsome!  I love his face.  He definitely looks the part of a fierce hunter kitty.  (even if he only hunts his cat dancer these days) laughing02.gif  Best of luck to you and Ollie!

:d Thanks!!

Tonight Oliver was laying down staring into the bunny condo (which I have barricaded with eavestrough wire) and she was acting tough. She flipped her pink mouse in his direction as if to taunt him so then he wanted it. I asked Matt to get it foe him, because at that point Ollie's paws were underneath the NIC trying to get the mouse, and when he got it he acted as if he had just won the lottery! He picked it up by its tail then and strutted past the bunny. Oh my, such sibling rivalry going on!! :P

Hi,

Welcome to the site! Oliver is beautiful. Glad you were able to rescue him and find a loving companion!

Wanted to share how I got my cat because our kitties have the same name! :)

I picked up my cat Olive off of the street. I had intended on rescuing a boy cat, wanting to call him Oliver Twist, Ollie for short. He ended up belonging to someone, but they had other strays needing a home and I ended up with a female stray. I still really loved the name Ollie, so ended up naming her Olive!

Look forward to seeing you around and hearing more about your Ollie

That's a nice name for your cat Olive!! :) And you can still get away with calling her Ollie!! :D Thanks for sharing your story, it feels good to do the rescuing don't it ^^

Thanks speaks, What history do you study?? I'm focusing on European 18-20 century (generally I'm just fascinated by the wars) and Newfoundland history 17th century - present :)

My favorite is US history, but my degree will just say, "History, Bachelor of Arts." Lol. I am taking Medieval Europe this semester to fill out the credit requirements and it is FASCINATING because I've never studied European history before. (It wasn't mandatory when I went to high school.)

I'm also a political science major... laughing02.gif

^.^ Awesome! The history courses in high school here are like.. World history. Canadian history is a University course. Kids just don't know it .. It's sad. (not that Canadian history is really more fascinating than European!) medieval history will be awesome!
