Hi Everyone!

Our new kitty, who we have had a little less than a week, has probably got the most potent poo and urine I have smelt in a while (some at the shelter were pretty yucky too, lol) Well anyways, we are in the process of switching his dry food from Dad's (what the shelter feeds) to Before Grain - Chicken dry. He also gets Weruva every other day (I think they fed Friskies wet or something at the shelter). He also drinks a good amount of water, so I know it's not him getting enough water.

Could it be the change in foods causing such stinky poo?
Also, just to add, he gets Lysine 2x a day and they sent us home with StrongID (as they do all cats) that he will get every 10 days (2 more doses left).

Oh no!  I've tried BG and I don't think it gave my guys stinky poo.  Have you switched litter?  My cats boxes smelled soooo much worse the one time I got the "wrong" litter.  Made a huge difference!

Switching dry food can tend to do that, especially if you don't take it slow. Are you making sure to switch to the new food over a period of 10+ days?

Yes, we do it over 14 days. He is on about day 5 right now.

Break out the clothespins! :p

Seriously! Well, I typically do a full cleaning (empty all litter, wipe down box, etc) of their litter boxes about every two weeks, but since he has been so stinky, I did it after only 5-6 days. Thankfully, this morning was not that bad! So I am hoping that his body is now getting used to the more premium wet and dry foods, and we are still reducing his amount of mixture with the former food.

There is hope!

I usually recommend people do NOT change their cats diet no matter what they were eating before after a recent move, and let them have their old food, old litter, old toys etc so they have familiar things.   Let them get all chillaxed and comfortable in their new place first since the move is already so stressful, then worry about switching litter/food on em later.    If it doesn't get less smelly and properly formed over time, then it may be an ingredient intolerance, which can cause upset no matter how high the quality.  Blue Kitten never did sit well w/ Buttercup IIRC, but Wellness and Blue Wilderness were no problem.   Never did figure out what it was, but I figure don't fix what isn't broken, heh.
