Smokie & the storm warnings

Thread Starter

Hi Everyone

Okay, so I am writing on behalf of  my darling Smokie and he says help!!

We  have been getting a lot of storms lately, and while it never seemed to phase him too bad before, he now is terrified - ie. digging claws, running, acting psychotic, bouncing on the walls, crying, and meowing out of what I imagine is fear for the thunderstorm.

Awhile back our vet had said to give him 3 ML of Children's benadryl to help him relax and calm down- this works , it really does but it poses the other problem-- he HATES the bitter taste of it, and I always get more on the towel I wrap him in or on me than in him--

So any ideas for the thunderstorm cure or how to give him the med easier would be very much appreciated by everyone in the house!

Thanks
Mel, Bandit, & Smokie

Last tornado watch, we were all bunkered in safe quarters of the hallway - you can see the terror in his eyes :( poor doll!!

Try giving him the Benadryl before the storm starts. If you know one is coming, get him while he's calm, that will help him not be so freaked out while you are trying to give him the medicine.

Also, find a treat he likes and only give that to him during storms. He may begin associating the storm with good things and help calm him some.

Are you giving him the Benadryl via syringe or spoon? If its a spoon, switch to a syringe...just call the vet and they should be able to give you one.

Good luck with the poor kitty.
