Various nuisances with the bandit genius cat

Yes my cat is a genius.

Some "genius" behaviors which are also proving problematic and I need ideas for is:

1- Taking the bath mat out of the tub by his teeth and dragging it around the house, yes my husband and I have seen him do this.

2- He has been getting up on the recliner in the living room and turning the light on at night (cute yes, but hardly feesible for sleep]

3- Finally, he will paw at the door until he is able to unlock them :-\

I don't have a dumb cat, lol I have a genius cat and genius cats can be so hard to deal with, he isn't even a siamese!!!

Thanks for any help---

Is the cat a Savannah, Chausie, or Bengal wink.gif If so, that seems to be part of living with them. But seriously, my F3 Savannah did some of the behaviors you described. The way I stopped him from unlocking doors was, to get doorknobs with locks paranoid.gif. The dragging the bath mat around is just a quirk of living with my cat.  Lastly, I covered the night light with double sided sticky tape. That did make him stop taking it out of the wall smile.gif.

Lol. Your cat must be very entertaining. My littlest one will pick up anything remotely entertaining. Bad news is she likes keys a lot. :/

I don't want a dumb cat per-se

but I am having a hard time with a genius cat, isn't there a middle ground? LOL

Yes bandit will hide things of mine. He likes keys, but mostly he likes shoes--- we go to look for missing shoes and they are in the litter box, the toy box, some kind of box that is his.!

I heart.gif your black domestic. I heart.gifblack cats in general, so thank you for sharing that photo. If your cat is under a year old, he might outgrow some of that behavior. But might not, only time will tell.

Now my Savannah LOVES to hide things as well smile.gif. But he tends to hide them in his litter box 3a.gif. Yes, my items such as pens, paper, earnings, and so on. Also his toys catman.gif. So, see it could always be worse.

Cats can be difficult, that's for sure. Honestly, over the years, we have adapted to their quirks, not the other way around. We have nothing sitting on counters, end tables, etc. because Riley will knock it on the floor if he's in a bad mood. We couldn't put the toilet paper on the roller for about 5 years at one point. Some of the adaptations we have made, we don't even realize until someone points it out. laughing02.gif

One ing though, living with a cat is never dull!

He just turned a year old..

Adaptions:

We are no longer able to sleep and stretch out on the bed, why? The babies need their heating pad at the bottom of the bed and need to be with mommy and daddy

see picture at bottom.

My solutions so far have been to put tape over the light switch

Put the bath mat up on the shower rod when not in use

Finally, I have somehow realized the cat comes first. We will completely rearrange our lives to cater to our cats - Such as they will be in our office chair, we  will just grab the computer and move elsewhere, or if they are taking up the whole bed-- naptime has to be delayed lol ya spoiled rotten is the title for them!

the babies enjoying the heating pad, and simultaneously preventing us from stretching out: :)

Lol! The cat comes first is right. My babies like their heating pad too whether its in or off. Peekaboo is a bad one chewing shoes but thankfully she isn't big enough to run away with them yet. She does collect all her "findings" in one place. Its the small shag rug we bought just for them to put in front of their cat castle. That's where I go looking for keys.
