Anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to decide between a couple different plans. If it's not too much trouble, these are the links to the different plans. If you have time can you tell me what you think? I have nooooo idea. Thanks so much in advance.

This is one of the most expensive:
ShelterCare Gold Program

This is by the same company, but just for indoor cats:
ShelterCare Indoor Cat Plan

This site compares two plans provided by VPI, the biggest pet insurance company:
Standard vs. Advantage Plans by VPI

And, you can add this on to either of the plans by VPI, for routine health care coverage:
Routine Care Coverage

I know it's a lot, but any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to get the best for my kitty, but since she's indoor only, I don't want to get anything that I won't need.

I've got the indoor cat plan from sheltercare. Two cats for $19 a month. Don't place any order with them online. Call because you may be eligible for discounts the website doesn't mention.

So far out in left field I got lost
I think I would go with either one of the first two listed. I am going to check futher into this for the boys myself. I think it is a good idea to have insurance since Vet care is so expensive.

Wow that's a lot of information.

I didn't know about ShelterCare's existance. I have VPI's superior plan for Spike. I don't have the routine coverage in addition because I'd be paying more for that coverage per year than I do in actual routine vet visits.

So far, I've been happy with VPI's coverage. I'll have to look more at the ShelterCare site to see what the differences are.

Wow this would be a good thing to have. I worry a lot about what would happen if one of my babies got sick or hurt.

I learned something new tonight. I didn't know that you could buy health insurance coverage for pets! I spent a fortune on George. . . . at least 1,500 if not more in less than a year. This would have been so great to have. . . .

If you have a perfectly healthy young indoor cat, I dont think its worth it
You would spend entirely too much on the insurance vs. the one vet trip a year for shots or whatever.

But I can see how for some people it would be a good thing to have

It is pricey, especially if you do have a perfectly healthy young cat that stays indoors at all times.

I mainly have it for Spike because I'm a worrier. I worry that one day, something will happen... an accident or some disease, and that the treatment expense is going to be astronomical. So I have it for peace of mind really. I don't want there to be a time where I have to decide what's best because of cost or regret not doing something to save him because I didn't have the finances to do so.

I also have a very vivid imagination as to what could go wrong. I always plan for the worst, and the things my mind comes up with, well...

Oh, same here. With VPI, I pay up front, usually with my credit cards, and then I'm reimbursed. And god knows I'd take out a personal loan if I had to for Spike. I don't even have medical insurance on me right now and he has his.

I'm also weird about credit cards. I always pay them off each month. Interest is evil.

Yeah I only have one credit card and its for emergencies (well, supposed to be
) and my interest rate is a fixed 8.9 so that's not so bad

I don't know about it not being worth it. I would love to get the indoor plan for my babbies but I didn't see my state listed
. I know it seems pricey for healthy cats but cosnidering my Logan was a perfectly healthy cat until he got the canser
. Although I in no time have ever regreated all the things we tried to save him we're still paying a very large bill off, if we had this plan it would have helped greatly.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I was thinking I might also call my vet and ask her opinion? Or what she be upset since it was a waste of her time? I wanted to get the insurance before I get her spayed, so I'd have to go in just to discuss this with the vet.

It might be a good idea for a young & healthy pet. All of my cats are older & would be expensive to insure. I have a savings account where I set aside money each month in case they need expensive care later, and also a credit card that is kept just for vet expenses.

I don't think it would hurt to call and ask your vet what she thinks. I know that with VPI at least, it's paid up front and then I'm reimbursed, so the vet shouldn't have any worries about not being paid, etc. And I would hope that she wouldn't think it's a waste of time. It's about the health of your furbaby... and isn't that what our vet's are supposed to be interested in?
