Hi, my outside cat went missing about 2 weeks ago and we just feared a coyote got her or something, however we found her dragging her back two legs when she crawled into our garage for food. We're assuming she got hit by a car, and miraculously healed somewhere because at the moment she has no blood and shows no signs of pain (she still lets me pet her and tries, but fails, to climb into my lap). Now her hip is more than likely permanently displaced and her legs are set in their new deformed position and only surgery would fix it. I definitely can't afford that surgery and want to know if theirs anything reasonable I could do to make her life easier? (as cool as it sounds, a cat wheelchair is out of the question) Any help would be grately appreciated. However we've already thought about bringing her inside, but she can't control going to the bathroom and it just isn't gonna work.

I hate to be the bearer of bad and possibly harsh news, but if you are unwilling to bring her inside, she no longer has any quality of life.

She is a target to any animal outside, as well as a risk for infection from dragging her limbs as the hide will come off.

Take her to the vet, you are never going to know for sure if she can be helped or not and how much it will cost.

Two weeks is not enough time for anything to have 'set' as far as bones.

If she can't be helped, or if it is too expensive, or if the help she needs is something you are unwilling to do, then humane euthanasia is the kindest option.

I am sorry you and your cat are going through this.

Cats do not show pain even when they are in pain. So there is no way to know if she is in pain or not.

As Arlyn said, you won't know if she can be treated unless you take her to the vet. You really need to do this. It could be she has a pinched nerve and there may be something the vet or you can do so that she will heal and regain use of her legs.

If this is your cat, whether indoors or outdoors, then it is up to you to care for her even in this condition. To her, you are her mommy and she desperately needs you to do the heavy lifting right now- as hard as it may be for you, face up to the situation, take control, take her to the vet.

No matter what, she should not be left outside for other animals to prey upon, or for someone else to clean up, now that she cannot walk and cannot control her bladder. If it were you, you wouldn't want to be left in this condition, fed outside but without use of your limbs to run from prey, not being able to tell anyone whether or not it hurts, or without even being taken to the doctor to find out what happened to you.

Please take your cat to the vets. You have no idea whats wrong with her. She will die if shes left outside. If you can not afford to have the vets try and fix whats wrong. The best thing you can do for her is to have her put to sleep. I know its hard to do but a much better choice then letting her suffer and die living outside.

Please don't leave her outside. She needs you to do whats best for her which might be having to put her to sleep if you cant afford the treatment for a crippled cat. I know on my fixed income I more than likely wouldnt be able to so I am not judging you. Please call the vet or the Humane society might be able to help you do whats best. In the future if you have anymore cats please keep them inside. Their lifespan increases tremendously. Outside cats lifespan is 2-5 years. Inside cats are 16-20. Please let us know what happens. I know I would like to know. God speed to you and kitty.
