cat trying to poop, but nothing?

cynder since yesterday has been going to the litter box to poop, and gets in the stance, but ends up not pooping, he is pooping a bit, but its soft, and no like his normal poop, why could he be doing this, I'm worried he has a blockage or something!!!! He is eating  and playing and drinking water, but its weird for him to be doing this. I went to watch him last night, and it also sounds like he has gas, so is the gas is what is causing him to go to the litter box so many times thinking he has to go or should I be worried... please help

I'd get some canned pumpkin (plain NOT spiced!). It's safe, and is a good fiber for cats, and will help regulate the amount of water in his colon. It can help him pass whatever the problem is. You should give him a minimum of a tablespoon, but more than once a day won't hurt. In the meantime, keep an eye on him, and if this continues despite the pumpkin, get him to the vet.

he goes to the litter box and it sounds like he farts but no poop comes out, then he covers up what is not there.. i started a few days ago mixing some of his dry into his wet so he will eat the wet, could it be this, and usually if think he is constipated i give him some friskies milk and that gets things going, but like i said he has pooped a bit but its soft, I'm just really worried its a blockage. what are the signs of a blockage so i can watch over the next few days?

Frequent visits to the box and straining. I still recommend feeding the pumpkin. There's no downside to it.

Do you suspect he could have eaten anything that could cause a blockage?

I agree with the canned pumpkin. But, I have never seen a cat in a shelter, at a vets office, or a foster that would eat it. Also NONE of my personal cats would EVER eat it nono.gif. So LDG, how did you manage to get a cat to eat it smile.gif? I would love to hear your secret please.gif.

I would recommend a product called Laxatone (http://www.tomlyn.com/pr_g_Laxatone.html). It can be bought at most local pet stores in the USA or vets offices. Not sure about other countries.

k litterly right afer i post this he goes a takes a poop, still has gas and it was really soft but it was a good amount, i think the problem is is that when i have been mixing his dry with wet he has been eating alot more of the wet and it has upset his tummy, he just doesn't do well on any wet so dry with a tiny bit of wet it will be for his diet i guess.
