My cat Oliver is 2.5 yrs. He is a Hi,alayan persian and is fixed. We adopted him 6 months ago from a coworker of my husbands. She had to give him away because he was peeing on the floor since moving into her new house (never did it prior to moving). The vet checked him out and he was physically fine. He told her it was because of the dog and she should rehome one of them. She choose to rehome Oliver.
We have no other pets and he was fine when gettin ghim. He was extremely shy and skidish for the first 2 days but then became the most lovable cat I have ever met. He was great with the kids. AT times in the beggining he had some attitude and would scratch/bite for no reason. He quickly stopped.
A few months after getting he had messed in the house a couple times. A few times infront of the patio door and infront of the garage door. It was only a few times and it stopped. We have been doing construction off and on in the basement since summer but in september it started a lot. I had noticed he had peed on the basement floor several times. He is no longer allowed down there until construction is done. In september and beggining of October he was peeing on the floor more often but not all the time. My sister and her friend came to stay with us and her friend is very loud and we are a quiet family so I thought it was because of the increase in noise. ONce her friend left and it was just my sister he was fine for about a week.
Now for at least a week and a half he would pee everytime (and pooped twice) I left or went to bed (husband has asthma cats not allowed int he room). I looked online and he showed some symptoms of seperation anxiety (following around the house, he followed me to everyroom,he literally followed me in a circle once, the second I got home he was at the door, he meowed and clawed the carpet when I was in my room). So I started ignoring him 15mins before going out/to bed and 15mins after getting home/waking up (our whole family is). He now doesnt fallow me as bad and doesnt always run to the door (this is within the last day or two) I also got a natural anxiety/stress medication for him (been on it for about 5 days). He hadnt done it in 3 days (tues,weds and today). I could still smell pee and noticed on his usual spot there was dried pee (dont know how old but within the last 2 days) an dlooks like it was 2 or 3 times. Which is still an improvement considering he peed min 3 times a day on the floor in that spot.
I am very frusterated with him and tired opf my house smelling like pee. I tried Natures Miracle and it didnt do much. TOday I bought Simple Solutions for Extreme Cat Odors (hopefully will work). This has been a very stressfull week in my household due to an upsetting family issue and i realizehe could be feeling our stress but this happened prior to the onset of our stress. I have no idea whats going on with my cat and have nver had a cat do this before and would love any suggestions and advice. I took him to the vet a few weeks ago an dhe is healthy. He has also attacked my daughter a few tiomes for no reason as well as myself, my husband and my sister which is out of character for him. He was throwing up almost daily as weel but hasnt in 3 days. ANy help GREATLY appreciated.
