kittens adult fang growing next to baby fang?

My kitten Keaton is a 5 mo old male kitten. He had smelly breath today and we checked his teeth...the last time we checked was randomly 2 weeks ago, to see if his baby teeth were coming out.

Today when we checked we noticed that his baby tooth fang and his adult fang are both in his mouth~they are side by side. I felt both of them and neither is loose, and they are the same size so I can't tell which is which.

He is still eating but is a little more lethargic then normal so we feel like his teeth may be hurting from this. Should we give it a couple weeks to see if they fall out, or does this warrant a vet visit pretty soon?

He is not yet neutered, because of work schedules I have to take an entire day off for the vet appt to be able to do drop off and pickup so we have that schedule in early Dec, but if need be I will make a sooner appt so they can pull his teeth while neutering, if it comes down to it.

Anyone have experience with double fangs?

My dog had the same thing. The vet said it was normal. The baby tooth eventually fell out

My Harvey is having the same thing happen on his bottom incisors right now. I'm watching it closely, but they seem to be fine.

Sounds like me when my teeth fell out. laughing02.gif I don't think you should worry about, judging from human experience, the tooth will fall out on its own. My mom took me to the dentist about it, and all he said was to wiggle it a lot. smile.gif Give it time!

Perfectly normal.  That's the way it usually happens, although not always.  This makes it so the kitten can still hunt/eat while its new teeth are coming in.

Congratulations!  Your kitty is perfectly normal!  The baby tooth should fall out all by itself.

Just got home and one of Harvey's bottom incisors came out today! So now he has the new one most of the way in. The other one is still doubled, though... and I can just see the starts of the top incisors poking out! Aaaaah, teeeeeth! biggrin.gif No wonder he's been a particular menace this week...

Thanks everyone! Guess my other kitties are the oddballs here....I have three other cats that we found/took in as kittens within the past year and a half, and they all lost their fang before getting a new one! I remember feeling bad for them in the days in between the old tooth leaving and the new tooth coming in because I was worried they had trouble eating, so I guess Keaton just has extra eating powers now w/ his extra tooth! :o)

He is quite the special kitty~we took him in at 2 weeks old and I bottle fed him. He has since decided I am his mama and he sleeps curled around my head on my pillow, follows me everywhere including into the bathroom. He is currently sleeping on the bath mat in the bathroom waiting for me to take my morning shower...good thing he is a cutie!

This was Jack's 2 weeks before he was neutered.  I rang the vet to explain and she said it was normal, but if it hadn't dropped out by the time he went in they would have taken it out while he was under, but a week later it fell out
