Such questions are best to have help with your vet. As cat owner Im sure you do have a vet?

 

Anyway, lets try discuss...

 

You know she has some days left, perhaps even a week.

 

If she has only 1 or 2 kittens - not that unusual, she wont be very big.

 

4 years is late, but I think not too late.  Breeders do avoid such late first-timers, but they say 5 years is the limit.  Although I do know case when the first time was about 8... It WAS risky and foolish, but it ended well.

 

Try to read on about deliveries, and have phone number to your vet handy.  Although with some luck everything should go smooth.

 

And please, when the kittens are weaned, do spay her.  Being in heat time after time isnt not good for them. Almost as dangerous as having litter after litter.

Spaying will be good for her health, believe me.

Yes, dropping of the belly means it is nearing. Preciselely like with humans.   :-)

 

Although I hope she will wait a couple of days more. Early deliveries isnt no big problem with humans, but kittens may be underdeveloped...   Lets pray.

 

You wrote in your first letter she is quite small.  Many cat females are small, and yet manages it well.

So this shoulndt be a problem in itself.

your calculations are right, she can carry the kittens for 70 days and it be normal. If she is getting her milk that is a good sign she is getting close. Molly my foster who had kittens on the 3rd didn't give me any signs of going into labor, the only hint I had was her milk coming in, and me checking her temperature after I noticed it. If her temperature has dropped below 100 then you can expect the kittens soon, within 24 hrs I believe it is. Literally if I wouldn't have taken her temperature I would never had a clue she was about to have them, the vet had told me she had a week and a half more than she did before they arrived. She was eating like crazy, never nested she had already decided she was having them in the tub I guess, and she seemed as calm as could be, her usual loving, purring self. But not all cats are like that, she was the opposite of the last cat I had go into labor, she nested, panted, and groomed herself constantly.

Unless she seems to be in distress, it's probably just fine. Has she had them yet? What did the vet say? Are you sure Sep 3 was the only time she got out?

That was a peculiar story!

 

But young moms, eating up the kittens, isnt that unique.  If they are stressed enough it is even not at all unusual.

I have read somewhere, out in the open, in ferale cat colonies, it may be up to 30%...

 

They often warn against toms as a threat. The sad truth is, a highly stressed mom may be an even greater danger to her kittens.

 

Seek once again around. Especielly in all dark corners and places where you human have hardly a possibility to reach.

 

If you dont find them, and she is no longer pregnant, so they are almost surely eaten up.  By her. If some other cat or dog took them, she would mourn and seek them.

 

 

You felt the kittens moving, and the vet confirmed.  Otherwise, I have heard of very late false pregnancies too.  So this owner of a young stud was happy the first wife get pregnant, and they waited. The day for delivery comes, the phone rrrings. The owner of the female! What news!??  They are asking for a new mating, it was a false pregnancy...   LOL.

Why are you breeding your cat if you don't even know how to tell if she's pregnant or not. Honestly, it's irresponsible. Is she a shining example of her breed? There is no reason to let her breed. There are already too many homeless/stray cats, why add to the overpopulation?

If you want kittens, why not spay your cat and go adopt as many homeless kittens as you want? Save a few from euthanasia.

I'll third the "spay your cat and adopt kittens from a shelter to avoid making the overpopulation problem worse" idea. Also, in your original post you open by saying:
 

If you love cats, you will get yours spayed and adopt kittens who are already in this world without a home. Otherwise, you don't love cats; you just want newborn kittens in your house. Or you only love your cat and want more like her. Or there is something else about cat pregnancy/nurturing that you are dying to experience firsthand. Or maybe you think mothers and kittens will make a better cat family than cats from a shelter. Those are the only reasons, as strange and inconsequential as they are, that I can see for choosing to breed your own cat over adopting from a shelter.
