Cat won't leave kitchen sink alone!

One of our two cats, Scooter, will not stay off either one of our sinks (kitchen and bathroom). I know cats like running water, but I'm wondering if there is a way to deter him from hanging out around my sinks. The other morning I found litter paw prints (gross!) all over my sink and counter, and today there was kitty puke all over my sink (something that has never happened before!). He has definitely been hanging out around the sinks more than I've ever seen him (he's about 5 years old). He knows getting up on the sink is a no-no because he gets yelled at every time we catch him and we take him down. He gets fresh water and food daily, clean litter box, plenty of toys...not sure what this increase in sink activity is all about!

If there was no kitty-puke or litter paw prints involved I would not have a huge issue with him on the sink, but at this point it's a health/cleanliness issue!

Any suggestions on how to get Scooter to stay OFF of my sink/counter areas?!

My thanks in advance for any advice!

If you think he's attracted by the running water, then maybe he would like a water fountain? I have this one and my cat and dog both love it:
Pioneer Pet Big Max in Stainless Steel

If he's just getting up there to be naughty though- a trick that worked with my cat was to cover a couple pieces of posterboard with double sided tape and lay those on the counter where she's not allowed overnight. Cats don't like stepping on sticky stuff.

What with the vomiting and the excessive interest in water....I'd have him to the vet for some blood work. Perhaps there's something wrong....at his age...diabetes comes to mind.
