This am, I got a ctm from a friend. Started out with a beautiful sunrise and went on to say how God has seen me struggling and will bring me blessings if I send it to 14 people. If I dont, I will suffer.

Well, I don't ever send these things on. On Friday, I was riding Big Al at our training session. The trainer had been prepping us to canter. We have only walked and jogged. Being older, I am comfortable with this, but know it is also important to work him at a canter. Well, he let out a buck and I amazingly stayed on. Lost my left stirrup and my crop, but got through it. After a few cheers from the trainer and other riders, I kept going at a walk. I think my cantering days may be over.

But all weekend, I have been upset and have shed a few tears. I have a date to ride this afternoon and have been really apprehensive. He has always been a good boy and I know he was feeling good. I am going to work out a deal for the asst. trainer to ride him at a canter a couple times a week to get the viniger out. She took him right after it happened and rode him at least 10 times at a canter around the arena, and he was fine.

But....now I get this ctm.....saying I will suffer if I don't pass it on. Honestly, when people send these things, they have no idea what the recipient is going through. UGH!! She has done more harm to this day than she knows! I don't even HAVE 14 friends, so I guess I am sunk!

I am a religious person, and realize that God did not send this. But, being human, it puts a little seed in your brain of "be careful"..

These should be illegal..afterall, it is threatening. My friend is a retired teacher who should know better.

Thanks for reading....just had to vent!!!!

I guess some people are too young to have learned their lesson about chain letters before the days of e-mail.

If I get them I delete them before I even get to the end of reading it, they are so pointless and make people worry for no good reason

Yup, I can honestly say that I have NEVER ever passed one of those along and nothing bad has happened to me. It's all in your head...just dont think about it and dont be scared to do things you enjoy because of a ridiculous letter.

Hopefully that doesnt sound too hash but its all just foolishness.

Aw I hate those things. It does make one think, and the people who start these things, to me, are immature and cruel. Don't let it ruin your ride today. Remember you need to be relaxed when riding. Horses are very perceptive, especially when they know you.
Relax, he probably just had some lead to get out, and maybe you can call your instructor and see if she can longe him before you come. This way, especially in the cooler weather which gives horses a little energy, he's gotten his energy spurt out, and will be predictable for you.

I know you hate chain texts, but I'd forward it back to who sent it to you, every 3 hours, until they get the message.
I am religious too, but I've come to see that I will not be receiving anything special or good simply from a text message that was forwarded to me. Hugs, girl, and have fun with the horse today. I'll be exercising my Ciderman myself later on.

I delete all forwards, and send an email to the person who sent it asking them to remove me from their forwards email list.

I consider using my email address to send to or include forward emails, an abuse of my privacy and confidentiality. I don't give my private email address to many people, and those whom I do, I expect them to treat it with respect.

EDIT: Some years ago my cousin was in the chain email faze and she kept sending them to me despite my having told her numerous times to stop. I eventually got fed up and went and signed her email address up at a couple of porn sites. Not long after she told me she was getting all kinds of porn emailings. I told her that's what happens when you cross your cousin! :p She stopped sending me forward emails. I had to change my address though because someone in her chain of forwards had a computer virus and it was mailing virus emails to everyone they had ever gotten an email from, which included my address. I never did give my cousin my new email address. I gave her my spam hotmail account that is 11 years old and is for junk sites that require an address to sign up.

I hope your cantering days are not over.

As to the chain messages, people mean well, but they don't think about stuff like this and just forward them without giving it a second thought. I hardly ever bother to read them; they're not worth my time. It's the same thing when people email stupid jokes....I don't bother with them either because nine times out of ten, I've already seen them. This stuff circles the cyberworld a million times over. And yet, people still send them on (like the Energizer bunny, they keep going and going and......).

Last week, a friend sent me two "warnings", one about being able to call 411 or some such number if a cop is trying to pull you off the road. The second one was the notorious "baby is outside crying" email. Both Snopes and Urban Legends say they're fake. And yet....I swear I've gotten those emails 1,000 times. What's worse is that they're from people who should know better; these are not people new to the internet world. And yet, there they were. I emailed her back with the links to those specific hoaxes and told her to stop....and I think I've told her that 1,000 times.

I agree with resqchick; the people who start these are immature. And the people who continue to forward unwanted emails, whether chain letters, hoaxes, or jokes are just as bad.

I hope Big Al behaves himself the next time you ride him. Or no carrots for him!

Thanks for everyones nice words of encouragement.

I have taken them to heart and have calmed down. It just amazes me that she does these things. She is a smart person and a good friend. But being a good friend means not sending these things. I would never dream of doing it.

I don't want to ruin our friendship, so will probably say nothing. Just have my finger on the erase key when her texts come in!

I had a few laughs at some of your replies!

Think I will take a carrot with me....

I get those all the time and nothing have ever happened to me, both good or bad.

If I find it particularly good in the beginning, I just delete the part about sending it to others for a "blessing" if I send it to a friend that I think might be cheered about it.

People who don't use blind copy with bulk e mailing drive me CRAZY! Like some others I do not read anything with fwd in the title regardless of who it comes from. The delete button is our friend.

The last person who sent me a chain email, that I was supposed to forward to "15 of my closest friends" I sent it back to her 15 times. She is also one who is always forwarding jokes and "inspirational stories" and other mindless junk. And she does not 'blind copy'. So after I sent the chain letter back to her I sent an e mail with instruction on how to use blind copy and why. Strange, I never hear from her any more. Since she never wrote normal e mails it is not a big loss

I HATE those things!

One of my students got one that said if she didn't forward it on, the ghost of whoever would come kill her. I had to spend quite awhile calming her down, she was really upset by it.

I agree with that. But even if people do blind copy, they're still sending out this stuff and perpetuating the cycle. They don't realize how frustrating it is.

You know what? I would much rather receive an email from somebody that says, I was thinking about you today and wondering how you're doing. Here's what's going on in my life. And how about you?

But many people don't do that. They think that by sending out chain letters, warnings, and jokes that they're keeping in touch. They're not. They're just adding to your spam.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
My 51 yrs old mother does this crap. I equate it with stupid high school stuff and it drives me loopy. Most everyone knows if they send me this type of stuff Im going to send them the most obnoxious stuff I can find. I have spent hours one time finding the most obnoxious text online to send to myself to forward to someone it had the worst music to it and I knew the person was at work and not supposed to be on their phone. I laughed my butt off when they called about getting in trouble from my text. Well lesson learned dont send me stupid emails or texts cuz Ill come back 10x worse.

Sadly that doesnt work on my mom...shes literally annoyance free with that stuff and laughs at it all.

At one time, when people would send me junk like that, I would send them a link...when the link was clicked, it would open some face thing bouncing all over the screen with really obnoxious music playing. The only way to close it was through the task manager. I did that to a few people and stopped getting the chain letters and whatever other junk they were sending me. Oh how I wish I could find that thing now.

It may help to put some perspective on it. I don't think she was doing it to be cruel to you (though the timing is terrible). Most likely, it was bothering her that if she didn't forward it, then she would suffer.

Superstition and fear of the unknown can mess with us more than anything. These texts just exploit it.

OMG, we are all in the same boat! lol

I love the ways you guys let these people know the texts are not appreciated! Too funny!

I forgot to add that she is a very religious person, goes to church every Sunday. Then to top this off, after she sent the text, she sent an email to me with beautiful bible verses backed by lovely scenery......

Think I will go back to bed and start the day over....

I hate chain texts too. My former best friend sends them to me ALL the time. That's all she ever really texts me these days, and I just delete them before even reading the entire thing once I realize it's a chain.

I'm the only registered Democrat in my large family, so I get lots of stupid chain emails about how we can't be sure the President wasn't born in Africa, etc.

They all loved George W. Bush, so every time I get a chain email bashing President Obama, I find a "Bushism" online and send it back to them.

Some of my favorites:

"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully."

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again.'"

"Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

"I'm telling you there's an enemy that would like to attack America, Americans, again. There just is. That's the reality of the world. And I wish him all the very best."

Based on the first one, the answer to the second one is "No". What horrid grammar!
