Experience with Cystonomy?

Good Morning everyone,

found this site, and hope someone has had an experience with a cat having bladder stones, and then having surgery to remove them. My cat Dingle had surgery Friday, and they sent him home early yesterday. They said that he would have blood in his urine for a few days and that would be normal. The second he got home he started peeing in his box, and has peed very often (upwards to 3 times an hour) ever since. Is this normal? I mean, i can assume he was doing this at the vet before they said take him home since he did it the second he got home..

The other thing is he still won't eat and hasn't pooped. Ive been able to convince him to drink, but thats it. My vet's office is open today, but the vet that did his surgery wont be in. My experience is that the crappier vets work sunday lol so id rather not call them till tomorrow..

He is producing urine everytime ive seen him in the box except for once when it looked like he was trying to poop, which would make since sine he hasn't pooped since he got home yesterday.

Thanks!
Mandy

Probably sounds normal.  Good that he is trying to pee alot with sucess.  That is a good sign.  He probably feels the urge to pee more because he just had his bladder operated on and feels discomfort.  Try feeding him treats or some nice smelly wet food to stimulate appetite as he has been through alot of stress with surgery.  Just had this surgery performed on my big guy.  He has done great and ate right away but he is the type of cat that nothing bothers him.  He did pee often for the first couple of days.  Most times not much but still some.  Every cat handles stress much different.

Any concerns though please call the VET immediately.

Well, we took him to the vet the day after we posted this (last monday) and they said everything seemed normal, prescribed him more pain medicine and an appetite enhancer. The appetite enhancer didnt work. We were talking to the vet nearly everyday at this point, and syringe feeding. By last Friday, they prescribed something else, but then Dingle died suddenly Friday night. The ER vet said nothing seemed abnormal either and they arent sure what caused it. Likely an unknown underlying condition :(

Sorry about your loss Manday.  Sounds like you did everyting you could. My younger cat got totally clogged due to stones 4 moths ago and while he avoided surgery the stress of the week vet stay, numerous catheteriztions, xrays and over all trauma almost killed him.  It took me days before he would eat.  I tried everything.  Slowly he came around.  I got lucky. Sometimes I think the stress levels just consumes some cats and they don't recover.
