Hello everyone:

Lucas had an allergic reaction not so long ago while he was eating Hills z/d canned food. The vet told me he doubts the z/d caused Lucas to get sick, but he told me it wasn't impossible. So I had Lucas on z/d dry and he improved almost instantly, weird, huh?

Well, since Lucas was doing so well and since the food problem is driving me crazy, I decided to start a food trial and finally find out what foods he is allergic to, I should have done this long ago, I didn't because I didn't want to expose him to foods that could harm him. Now I think it is necessary because I don't want him to be in an all dry diet, so I decided to start with Natural Balance Green peas and duck canned, he had eaten the dry in the past with no problems.

So, I gave Lucas one can of the duck food on October 25 and the reaction was almost immediate, his eyes got all red and swollen, his belly got soo red, I mean it was so fast. Just in case I gave him the food again the next dat, it was awful, he looked terrible and he looked so sick, I didn't sleep at all that night watching him. I'm now absolutely sure Lucas is allergic to duck and that is good to know.

Now he is back to dry z/d and the change was in a day, I mean , he is all better now, he is happy and perfect, his belly is still a little pink, but is going away.

Once he is all better i will try salmon, I'm hoping he can eat at least one kind of meat. I read online about a cat that was allergic to all kinds of meat, but he wasn't allergic to salmon. I just have to find out. He learned to love wet food and now I can't even give him z/d wet.

I hate doing this because I'm afraid of him getting a serious reaction, I just pray to God everything will be ok and I will be able to find a food he is not allergic to.

I will update soon.

Aww, poor Lucas, I didn't know his allergies were so severe..

Maybe to gauge the next reaction you could only feed him a small portion of the salmon? Do you think you'd still be able to get a reaction?

Another way I found to test allergies is to feed the pure meat itself. I didn't do this with cooked meats, but instead freeze-dried chicken. About 10-15 minutes later he was chewing himself, so I'm pretty sure it's an allergen. (I'm waiting a month before doing any more trials.)

If/When you figure out what protein he is not allergic too, Before Grain may be another brand option for you. I've been feeding the salmon and tuna flavors alongside the Tuna and Potato LID with much success.

Best of luck to you and Lucas.

Hi:
Thank you so much, yes, Lucas's allergies are very severe. I will for now, continue testing his allergies with Natural balance limited ingredients canned food because the reaction was so fast that I was able to know immediately. Yes, this time I will only give it to hime once, if I see a reaction I will stop. I can't risk him getting sick.

I tried with baby food first, but he wouldn't touch it. He hates home made food too, so my only choice is canned food, which he now loves.

I hope your boy is doing fine. Thank you for the suggestion, I will see if there's some way I can buy before grain, getting the NB was a challenge because most online stores don't ship to Puerto Rico, Petco does, but not the canned. I'm only buying from The Pet Pantry in Orlando Florida, the are really nice and they have good prices and ship fast.

Hi Tammy! I think, as hard as this is to do, must be done because if you can find one meat he is not allergic to then he can enjoy wet food again. Honestly, I would be doing the same thing. I have taken Pipsqueak totally off any turkey. His chin has cleared completely up now. I might have been lucky in that my trial was with the turkey first. Eliminating that from his diet did it. It is so difficult on us meowmy's dealing with a food allergy. Loads of vibes/prayers you can get through this food trial with Lucas without too much discomfort on his part, and yours

Hi, I thank you so much for your support, I feel a lot better, I was feeling so guilty about doing this, my family, specially my brother, is angry because he came and saw Lucas sick. He loves Lucas a lot, he just doesn't understand that a wet diet is what I want for Lucas, so I have to do this.

Thank God he is looking better everyday. I will wait like two weeks to do another trial.

I'm almost sure Lucas is allergic to turkey too, he ate blue seal canned turkey and he got so sick, but, since that food contains a little chicken too I need to try turkey later on to make sure. The first ingredient was turkey though.

Thanks so much for the vibes and support

Hugs!
