Any idea where i can find these?

My vet gave Picasso this home made toy earlier. It's stuffed with catnip and Monet LOVES it. I am sure it'd be destroyed before long because it's made of yarn.

Since I cannot knit or crochet, does anyone have any ideas where I can find these to buy in bulk? I called my vet, they don't sell them, they bought a bucket full from a shelter to donate cash to them or something, and they're just giving them away to customers.

Heck, if YOU crochet or knit and like to make a few of these, I'd happily buy them from you!

Those things always show up at craft fairs this time of year.

Maybe Ebay or Etsy? I've bought many craft kitty items on those before.

Btw.. that picture is absolutely ADORABLE!

I got some from a place online, but I just checked and they don't make them anymore. I have made them as gifts and I know that Carly likes them because they go missing before I've wrapped them. If you can't find a source, then maybe we can work something out.

I would think etsy would be the place to go! You can always contact someone who sells cat toys on etsy even if they're not quite the same and ask them if they could just copy the one from the picture. They probably could.

thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

Are they just big crocheted round toys? I would probably be able to make them if I could figure out more about them.

Pretty much, yep. balls stuffed with catnip. I can take closer pictures if that'll help?

TheMBcat on here just said she's learning to knit and is short of cash. Maybe she could make some and sell them?

They're actually really easy to crochet - I make similar ones out of scrap yarn for my guys when I'm not working on anything in particular.

Cotton dish-cloth yarn works best (survives longer), although that one looks like it's done with a chunky or chenile yarn and a big hook...is it 2 circles sewn together with the dark brown yarn or all one piece?

Quick guess at the pattern:
(all values very approximate )

1. ch.3, sl, st in 1st ch to form a loop,
2. working in loop, 8 sc,attach to 1st sc with sl. st,
3. ch 2, 2 sc in each sc around, attach to 1st sc in rnd with sl. st
4. repeat step 3 for 4-ish rows
5. 1 sc in each sc, attach to 1st sc in rnd with sl. st

then repeat the 1st set of rows reversed (4-1), decreasing instead of increasing until you're back to about 4 stitches, stuff it and sew the opening shut. that would give you the slightly flat , UFO-like ball. For a fully round ball, you'd have to increase and decrease the size a lot more gradually and you'd have easily twice as many rows.

No suggestions on a knitting pattern - I'm a terrible knitter.

I found a pattern, looks pretty simple. I don't think I have any 4 ply yarn around, or I'd give it a try.

That's pretty much what I imagine in my head. They just look like two "pretty flat" pieces of crochet brought together with a chain stitch. I guess if someone knitted something similar, it would have to be done in the round, else they would come out square.

Yeah, I try not to give my guys seams if I can avoid it - it's the first thing they pick apart. You probably would have to knit in the round, either 4 needles or circulars. if nothing else, it would be great practice.

I recently went to a cat show and there was a toy booth that sold those balls. I bought one for Loki but he didn't really care for it. http://smshowsupplies.ca/toys.html is their website and they're like $2 or something. :)

That website has some really awesome looking toys! I know Wessie would love the real tails, because he had a squirrel tail and almost destroyed it. laughing02.gif
