Post pics of your Noreaster snow!

Well we haven't got it as bad as Pam based on her last post in MargeCat's thread. But it's coming down faster now.

I didn't think to start earlier. Here it is at 11:30am:

And here it is an hour later:

I was out about an hour or so ago, looking around.

Some of the trees in the front yard:

I'm sick about our Japanese Maple. We had babied this tree so much and now it has split into three sections. I could cry.

Rupert is not amused....

The flowerbed in the backyard....

The lilacs....

The fence around the pool out back. Thank goodness we did get the fountain wrapped in its blue tarp for the winter.

Looking out from under the Mountain Ash....

I told Rick when I came back in the house that this is not a storm you get for your first snowfall. This is a storm you get in January, in mid-winter.

We're going to go back outside and start trying to remove some of the snow from branches. I hope the weeping cherry trees will be OK.

Have I mentioned how much I hate winter??

OH MY gosh!!! I have to say, those pictures are really beautiful. I am sorry , but I really DO love the snow and the cold..... I am like my dad, we are Swedish and are cold-blooded and I don't get cold as quickly as most people. I just think a white, blanket of snow is just breathtaking. BUT - I hope you all don't get TOOOO much snow .

Larry is flying to Philiadelphia early tomorrow morning. Don't know how that will go. He might be sitting at Ohare for a bit

We just have rain and incredible winds. My husband and a bunch of guys from his old firehouse went up to West Point to watch the Fordham-Army game. It's snowing at a heck of a clip.

And now Fordham is losing 42-0. (They went to see one of the guy's nephew on Fordham. They shoulda missed this game!!)

Too much snow???? Honey? One inch of snow? IS TOO MUCH!!!!

The snow is supposed to end here tonight, so by tomorrow morning, Larry's flight to Philadelphia should be on time. Good luck, Larry!

I. Am. So. Jealous!!! By the time it gets here, it's going to be RAIN and wind. Neighboring New Brunswick is getting snow though. Ugh. Sorry to all the snow haters but I LOVE snow. I love when everything is all white and its quiet outside. Winter is so beautiful.
Pam - the pictures really are beautiful. But the reality of dealing with snow is not beautiful.

Don't forget --- the room is ready!!!!

Anyone else want to come and visit us?
The pictures really are beautiful, but I am SO sorry about your Japanese Maple. We lost most of our Redbud tree from a heavy wet snow and then another quarter from Hurricane Irene.

Still buckets and buckets of rain here, but supposed to get ice and snow later.

I'm so jealous, send some of that snow here. I don't get to see enough of it. I'm still like a little kid when it snows and get all excited and have to go out to play in it!
Wow, the pictures are beautiful! Not sure about being in the middle of it though. Too cold for me!
The pictures are gorgeous!!! I love snow.... well in pictures anyway! I hate living in the middle of it

I'm glad you have it there and that we don't have any yet! I'm happy to report that we usually have snow by this time of year but today was just light sweater weather!
I'm sorry about your Japanese Maple. I've had both of mine for years now and I would hate to see anything happen to either of them.

But the snow is beautiful. Sometimes we get a pretty snow here, but most of the time we get ice. One time the pine trees in the woods were cracking like gunshots as they fell, and I ran out to see if they'd hit our building. (One had.) I still thought it was beautiful, though ice is a terrible substitute for snow.

I've read about those Noreasters in Stephen King books. I guess that's as close as I'll get.

One inch, not enough for me . We are watching the weather channel and it is suppose to end by the morning. BUT that doesn't mean flights won't be backed up Thanks, Pam for the good wishes

Yeah... that's why I live in SoCal. I do not miss Pennsylvania winters (or autumns too I guess!!!). No way. I always did like snow, but I hate the cold. So... while snow is fun, I'm ok with not having any if it means 'winter' is temps in the 50s-60s in the day and 40s at night and rainy sometimes.

While I am sorry for the tree loss, road conditions etc....I'm glad it not us!

These 2 pix document the shocking abuse of Leo & Loki during the storm:

And the view from my living room...and there's something so not right about the last one! LOL

I must admit I think the pictures are beautiful. I hope you don't get too much more snow. I hope it doesn't do too much damage.

Breathtaking pictures. I love snow but HATE having to drive in it. I'm one those weird people that like taking walks in near blizzard like conditions. Especially in a area with not much people or vehicle traffic. It gives you such a feeling of solitude. When I worked at my first job in high school, I often had to go outside early in the morning to clean the parking lot and and clear all the handicap ramps and emergency exit doors free of snow. I worked at a movie theatre that had 21 auditoriums, the largest seating over 700+ people and the smallest seating 250 people so the parking lot is massive, wrapping around the entire building. When it was snowing real hard out was the only time I really enjoyed doing that part of my job. You couldn't hear anything except for the wind and the sound of your boots crunching in the snow. It was so relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. I felt like I was miles away from anyone.
But like I said, as much as I love snow, I absolutely hate driving in it. (mainly because it seems like everyone else on the road can't seem to drive and that scares me.) The only time I don't mind driving in snow is when its not snowing anymore or its a very like snow and the roads have been cleared and salted. Or at night when its not snowing anymore because you can see almost as good as in the day because the white snow reflects the moonlight.

Well, we didn't get the 6-10" predicted (I'd guess we got about 3"), but what a mess for everyone.

Of course, today, the sun is shining.

BTW, in my pix of the cats during the storm, the green thing in the lower left-hand corner of Leo's pic is their tent, with a soft, fleecy blanket in it. It's actually a fold-up small dog carrier, but I bought it for them last winter, so they could sleep in it to keep a bit warmer during my shocking abuse sessions. Oh, and the tan thing they are laying on is their cat blanket--a folded over sleeping bag, in which they burrow and chase each other. Life's so rough for these poor cats! LOL

(If you're looking something that doubles as a cat blanket and something to keep the fur off the furniture, cheap nylon sleeping bags that un-zip to become flat, are great. The cats love them, the fur doesn't cling to the fabric, and they wash and dry fast. I've always intended to cut mine into smaller rectangles, and hem them, bind the edges, etc., but have never gotten around to it. It's hard to find fabric to which cat fur won't cling.)

Wow, you people are getting snow already!? I thought I was in the coldest climate on TCS

It is still snowless here...probably only a matter of weeks for us.

Amazing pictures, I love seeing the snowy pics everyone posts! I love the snow though love to go walking in it

Sorry about your maple tree

I'm jealous! I love winter & snow... I can't wait for it to arrive in Minnesota, which will probably be sooner than later LOL!

Pretty pictures, everyone!

Your pictures look like a winter wonderland, very pretty.

We had about an inch of snow on the ground this morning. I have 2 new feral babies (look to be about 5-6 months old) I told my husband this was their first snow and I hoped they would be ok. I was so happy to see them show up for breakfast this afternoon. They were a little late but that's ok.

As I looked around at the snow I couldn't help but think it looked so pretty against the still changing leaves on the trees. We don't have a lot of color because of the hurricane late summer but it still made a pretty contrast and something you definately don't see normally around here.

I am hoping this is the last snow for a few weeks I still need to get a winter set up for the new ferals that are coming around. I had one last year for the few we had but I think someone must have trapped them in the spring as I haven't seen any of my old gang in months. I had seen the 2 that are starting to come around during the summer when they were very small. They disappeared for awhile and now are starting to learn that free food is here. Maybe they caught a glimpse of my stray cats welcome here sign

I must admit too that those pics are beautiful, snow is fine when you can hibernate inside Please don't send it to us yet.x
post #25 of 37
Beautiful pics! I would love to be sitting inside looking out the window at that
post #26 of 37
We got a good chunk of snow. I wasnt going outside for pictures..LOL Too cold for me I was inside with the woodstove going and it was blazing hot. Even Franklin wasnt all about going outside he took one look at the snow and turned around and sat at the door. I did get a couple cute pictures inside though.

Snowflakes.

My idea of a "good snow storm:

It starts snowing about 3 p.m. Just a gentle, easy snow, no big buildup, just enough to make the evening commute (or drive to Grandmother's house) more interesting. After 7 p.m., it gets serious, coming down hard but with small, dry flakes, building up to about 24 inches, ending about 8 a.m. The clouds clear off, the sun comes out, and the temperature is in the mid-20's.

It stays that temperature until the morning of January 1, when the weather goes back to 78 degrees and sunny, and all the snow melts by noon, so everyone can get home safely.

Haven't found it yet.

And once you're home from Grandmother's house, you don't have to drive anywhere until January 2.

Oh, no, stay at Grandma's house the whole week, where she has 3 channels on TV but a closet full of board games and old toys and Little Golden Books. Maybe even a set of Trixie Belden mysteries! And a big woodpile and a Franklin stove.

I haven't found anyplace like this, so, if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to buy a house in Hawaii to live in 50 weeks per year, and a log house in Jackson Hole to live in for two weeks per year: December 18 to January 2.

I see the area where Dottie's mom lives got up to 30 inches of snow. Their power and phones are out.
