We had this storm move through on Wednesday. I spent most of the day knocking snow off the trees. It hasn't been that cold so the trees had just changed and were full of leaves. So 8.5 inches of wet snow were hard on them. Some places didn't get power restored until yesterday. Today is now beautifully sunny and the snow will be gone by tomorrow.

Over the river and through the woods...
The forecast DH read this morning was calling for up to 5 inches here (maryland/west virginia) with a possibility of 6-12 inches further north. It's tracking up the coast and there's talk of it being a Nor'easter. Great....

DH is the manager of the John Deere department where he works and the phone is ringing off the hook with people wanting their snowblowers put on their plows NOW. He was grumbling about "people who wait till the last minute.." and I said, "ummm, honey? It's Oct 28th. Hardly the last minute!" Then I reminded him that HE still has to put the plow on OUR tractor when he gets home!

We had a frost warning last night so I went and harvested all the decent sized green tomatoes off the vines last night and put them in our windows. Sure enough, this morning I had to start the car early with the defrost running full blast. So depressing.

ARGGGHH! 2-6" on Saturday night--the night of the big Halloween costume party I look forward to all year. It's one of the rare times I go to anything social during the year. In fact, we have 2 parties Saturday night (1 Halloween party starts early; we're leaving early to go to the 9 PM one). It's only between 5-10 minutes away, but on windy, nasty back roads, plus I don't know if they'll cancel it. We missed their other costumed harvest festival last week (they cancelled it due to road construction not being done in time. We meet up with our friends from Rev War and Civil War reenacting who have gigs there. I love the festival, and was so disappointed when then cancelled at the last minute.)

We have still been harvesting some tomatoes from the garden. I guess this could be the end of it!

Um, yeah! Back in the day when we were employed and on the road in the RV, we were always happily tucked in or on our way to Naples by now! Always loved to stop and fish in Orange Lake, and you're just never to old to enjoy Disney!

We had August in May, September in August, no fall, and they're telling us we're expecting 6 - 10 inches!

I am not amused. I just hate winter.
Hate winter.
It's not as fun in the RV as you'd think.

Yup, they're telling us there will be widespread power outages.

Oh no! I hope they don't cancel!

Well - even more I hope it doesn't snow!

We are totally prepared for the snow now (I think LOL).

- Got the hats, gloves and mittens out from the storage compartment.
- The winter coats are now hanging inside.
- My boots are by the door.
- The snow shovel is outside by the door.
- We added several more winter shelters for the ferals today.
- Put the insulation block around the edge of the deck (prevent wind from breezing under there, where the feral kitties wait to eat in bad weather).
- Got the insulation up (at least temporarily) all the way around the bottom outside of the RV to block the wind - both for us and the outside kitties.
- Plugged in the heat tape (used to insulate the water to the RV)
- Went shopping (the store was empty!) ...but didn't get much, as we decided to get chinese take out. A little goes a long way for us, so we're pretty much set for food for the weekend.

- Picked up sulcralfate and more pepcid a/c for Lazlo. (Damn! Didn't get more a/d though! Have enough to make it until Monday, so that's good).
- FINALLY remembered babyfood for Laz.
- Got out the space heater to help keep the front of the RV warm (we have ducted heat, but there's only one duct up front, so the kitty litterboxes get a little chilly without the extra heat).
- Got the "insulation packs" (we buy that thick pink fluffy insulation and pack it into those huge thick "contractor" garbage bags and tape them up) stuffed up into the wheel wells to help insulate.
- Changed the oil on the generator.
- Got the 2nd propane tank filled and ready to go.
- Got the ice tires put on the van...
- and did the laundry today as well.

We were REALLY hoping that having gotten all of this done and being THIS prepared would mean... NO SNOW and no 20-degree weather!

It will be bizarre to see my summer flowers, which are still blooming profusely, covered with snow! I've never seen that before!

I actually had to turn the heat on this morning for about an hour or so. I did turn it off, and have been using the 2 electric fireplaces all day, which keeps it toasty downstairs.

Of course, I took a vacation day today in order to work on the blue 18th C. gown I talked about recently. I had hoped to get it done for last Saturday, but ran into a big problem, and needed DH to help with it, but he worked brutal hours all week, and I hadn't the heart to ask him. I thought I'd wear it tomorrow night for the parties, but, when I saw the revised forecast, I put it away! (I'm secretly glad I had an excuse!) Mind you, the ice blue fabric would look stunning in snow...
So, it was a wasted vacation day...

On a happier note, I've never worn snow boots to a Halloween party before!

I do remember trick-or-treating as a kid once or twice in slushy weather (Chicago area). But THIS much snow?

Well the good news for my area is that while they are saying snow still; they are saying no accumulation.

The bad news is that my plans for the weekend are still in an area expecting snow. Boo. DH wants us to get up early to go. He isn't too worried; but I'd rather it just didnj't snow at all. That would be great!

The earliest I've seen snow here (SE PA) is October 10th, many years ago. It went up to 72F later in the day!

Looks like we're going to get 10 inches. Sigh.

Fortunately most of the leaves are gone, just the oaks (any my apple tree) But I wasn't really ready for shoveling.

I havent checked the weather yet this morning but as of last night we were still in the same boat. The radio station was saying its not a milk bread and eggs storm its just an eggs storm. LOL I got the milk and bread but not eggs.

Walmart was a zoo last night. I got so frustrated at one point I was about ready to snatch everyones freaking phones outta their hands and smash them. Oi it was ridiculous.

We did hit the store last night and, thankfully, it wasn't bad at all, just like any other Friday night.

We're just getting a mix right now....rain showers to snow showers and back to rain.

While I don't remember ever doing the T or T thing in snow, I do remember having to put our costumes on over our winter coats because it was just too cold to go without.

Now, that's my kind of snow storm! I can handle that.

A few years ago, we drove to Connecticut for the weekend in snow along I-81 in the Poconos. I was not happy at all, but Rick drove the Tundra and we were fine. It was a mix and once we got out of the mountains, we just had rain.

I'm so glad we went to Connecticut last week when the weather was just lovely!

Hope it is not too much for you guys
. I heard that here in Chicago, this winter will be bringing us record-breaking snowfall's. I wonder though, if that means we won't be so darn cold. It never snows when the temps are so brutally fridgid.

Sending you some of our sunshine your way

Well. Our storm was supposed to start before 9 a.m, but didn't start until 3:30. However a friend who lives a bit south of me, his storm started early this morning, and they've already got about 10 inches.

Glad I got everything done today, so I can stay comfortably snowed in tomorrow.

Oh and....why do I keep humming Christmas carols?
