Seriously? Winter storm warning?

They're kidding, right? Saturday's high is projected to be 39, and the low to be 27. The warning is that we may get enough wet, heavy snow to have to worry about trees and power lines! And after Irene, there are plenty of weak trees.

We're so water logged as it is.

I am NOT ready for this cold weather yet!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, if the predictions are right, we're back in the 50s next week... but still in the 30s at night! UGH!

Dude, it's 49 here, windy and raining and I refuse to leave the house. I could NOT handle a winter storm yet.

Good luck getting through that.

I went to feed the ferals this morning and it was a balmy 55 (and raining). By this afternoon, it was 45, and just nasty, cold and windy.

If we have to move to MN next year, I don't know what I'll do.

Oh no - sounds like you're being serious! Job-related thing? I love MN in the summer, and Gary and I used to dream about moving to northern WI. Now I'm just glad it never happened. My old creaky bones are thinking TX or FL.

Really? That far out? I thought they were talking west of I-95!

Frost warning here tonight. This is the third one this month, though, and it hasn't happened yet. But it will, soon. In the 30's some nights. Then it is the 40's for the low for a few days again.

The hopeful news is I think Grenval may have come out of the Feralvilla when I brought out her dinner shortly after 5 p.m. this evening. It looked like she did. But I may be wrong. Could be I'm hallucinating about it because I want it so bad. Like I had a dream that I picked up Ariel.

Oh yes, job related. I've heard awesome stuff about the summers there as opposed to the summers here in TX. But the winter....oi.

It's 40 degrees and raining here right now, ridiculous! Maia is snuggling up with me in the blankets, we keep each other comfy.

We're supposed to have some snow and/or rain Friday night, Saturday mornings, and evening. I'm near Philly.

It sounds as if you're in the same weather area as my in-laws (?) A winter storm warning, with a potential of 4-6" of snow?!?!
Never mind the warning, it's HERE! Got about 2 inches out there already, LOL. Up where I was working tonight, they have even more, the girls went out and made a snow man. She promised to send me the picture I took, with her camera (didn't have mine) when their internet is back on.

I remember an old guy telling me once, when I had first moved to a very small rural town near here, but before I came here. He said that if a first big snow came in October, depending on the date, that would be how many storms you could expect that winter. Well, that was in 1993, we had a big storm on October 15th, and wouldn't you know we had 15 more huge storms that winter, two of them lasting 3 or 4 days. The town total snow accumulation for that winter was 26 feet.

Well now it is October 27. I hope that doesn't mean 27 storms. (But if it does, I hope they are snow, not ice.)

Yikes.

I'm worried about my apple tree, I haven't even near finished harvesting it yet. I've only done one picking! It's heavy with apples, and if the snow builds up too much the branches will break. "nature's pruning" okay, but I want those apples!

OMG those ice storms last year were NUTS. There is a VERY steep drive up into the park - and a lake at the bottom of it. If there's going to be ice, I REALLY hope it's when that lake is frozen.

There were a couple of times last year I wasn't sure we were going to make it up that drive to get home.... and a couple of times, we had to back out and make several runs at it. It wouldn't be so bad fishtailing up that thing if there weren't those big fat rocks on the sides of the drive.

The ice storms are beautiful... but something I like to see, not be IN.

And !! 2 inches? UGGGGG.

And if we have 27 storms this winter... I guess I'll get a lot of exercise shoveling.

Just PLEASE do not let it drop to below zero for weeks at a time!

That's how Tuxie wound up inside. That winter of 2002/2003 was HORRIBLE. That was the last winter it snowed before Halloween... and there was never not snow on the ground from that point on. Then in February it dropped below zero - and just STAYED there. Gary went completely out of his mind about Tuxedo outside. We finally put him in boarding.. and he got sick, and came home forever.

But with the four now... we'd damn well better win the lottery if we want to be able to do anything like that again.

Oh NO! Your poor tree! it stops snowing and you can save the apples!

Edited to add: when we lived in a house, we had several peach and pear trees on the property (in addition to HEAPS of raspberry and black raspberry bushes). We never got a single peach or pear - birds ate them!

It does sound like a good day for that! Thank goodness we mostly telecommute. We're going to do laundry tomorrow and hunker down Saturday too.
It's all my fault you know. I had my snow tires put on last Friday.

I agree the summer's not so bad - winter sucks! I love the snow & all - but I don't want to have to drive anywhere in it.

I had to do it this year early because I am going to a family wedding tomorrow up north. We've had so much rain, and doing all the driving, especially coming home late at night, tired, I wanted to have the best tire traction I could get.

So really, it was rain I was concerned about, it didn't occur to me that snow would be an issue.

And guess what the forecast for tomorrow is bright and clear. Cold, but no precipitation of any kind expected. Oh, the irony!
It seems so early for snow! Stay warm out there everyone. They were originally calling for snow here tomorrow, but then the forecast changed. Pheww I wasn't ready for that yet
post #25 of 62
They are saying we could get up to 3" here on Saturday. Looking at the hourly forecast; it isn't really supposed to fall before the late afternoon. Just rain before then. Either way I don't want snow. I could cry. Literally.

We have still been harvesting some tomatoes from the garden. I guess this could be the end of it!

Laurie -- seriously and really, can we switch places???

It is still STUPIDLY hot here during the day.

I'm just saying No. My middle sons birthday is Sunday, I'm baking (what seems like) 1000 more cupcakes for HIS football game, and there's NO WAY I will agree to any kind of frozen precipitation.
I just checked my weather forecast. Temp 37 degrees with a snow accumulation of 4-6 inches.

What the heck happened to fall?? Did mother nature decide to skip it this year? Did her and fall get into a fight or something cuz Im not happy about this at all.

Rick just told me about the snow. And to make it worse, we never bothered to buy any groceries this week and thought we run to the store tonight. But now, I refuse to go to the store, knowing that everybody and his brother will be in there going crazy. Looks like we'll be eating out of the freezer over the weekend.

I am not amused. I just hate winter.
