First it was AT&T. Negotiated a reduced rate for upgraded internet for a year, because I was about to cancel and go with Road Runner. So I get my bill and they're charging me full price! I called them and hopefully got it sorted out, but we'll see when the next bill comes.

But now the latest is my sister's Dish Network bill. Last year I bought her Center Ice for Christmas, but she wanted to cancel it for this year. First she did a Chat and they said they would cancel it, but it was still on her account. So she called them, got somebody in some other country who could barely speak or understand English. Assured once again that they had cancelled it. Well guess what? It's not cancelled! And dumbo sister paid the first bill because she thought it was because she recently upgraded the Dish package. So now what? Keep paying for it or try to cancel it and maybe be out the money she has already paid?

What is it with these companies? Is it a scam or just incompetence. I'm inclined to think it's a scam, but maybe I'm just overly suspicious anymore.

I think it's a blend of both incompetence and a scam with many places nowadays. It's amazing how they "forget" to remove a charge, etc. until you remind them.

My pet peeve is businesses who don't get back to me, and this also happens at work. We deal with 16 other branches, and often, staff do not reply to my emails (all are work-related emails), even though I've requested they do so! This even happened with the Library of Congress recently. In early September, I emailed them regarding a cataloging issue. The staff member said they would forward my email to the appropriate staff. I waited 2 weeks, and emailed them again, saying that I never got a reply from the underlings. I'm still waiting for that person's reply to my reply!

I once ordered a chair from a department store; this is back when you phoned everyone (no email). I waited 2 months, then finally called them to see where my chair was. "Well, it's coming from Italy; they wait for a ship to come into port, then they load it on, and send it." "Pray tell, which ship can I expect it to be on: The Nina, The Pinta, or The Santa Maria?" No response to THAT!

I told them to cancel the order, as they obviously didn't want to sell me a chair. (I had called them 7 times before that; each time, I was told that the manager would call me back. Right.)

I hope you can get the problems solved very soon!

Just reminded me of an incident we had years ago with a set of marble coffee tables. There were 3 in the set and one of them had a slight damage. The store said they would replace it, but the special marble (Rositica marble they called it) came from a special "mountain in Italy", and it was on order. We still lived in NY at the time and then there was a strike at the dock and the store said they couldn't get the marble off the boat because of the strike. We finally said we'd just live with the slight blemish.
