Hello fellow Catowners,

Recently I am baffled by what has been happening to my vialli, it all started about 3am Sunday morning, he was in my room, looking at me, around 30 seconds later i heard scratching and turned round to find my cat dragging himself across the floor with his front paws, he was so distressed trying to hide in corners, so as of his age (18 in april) i assumed this was his time, i took him into my moms room, which is his favourite place, woke her and my dad up immediately, he didnt look great, a few hours later he settled, and we didnt take him to the vet this day, he wasnt greatly eating or going to the toilet.

On monday we took him to the vet, he has all function everywhere except his hind right PAW , his limbs are fine, the vet was even baffled as of many illness's he would have lost physical feeling in both hind legs, and he is not in ANY pain, the vert gave him an anti inflammatory injection, and took a blood test.

Through monday and tuesday he perked up, but seemed depressed, probably because hes never had any health issues and finds it now hard to walk, but he started eating much better , back to his usual self, and toileting fine. We got the results back and he has more white blood cells, and a heart murmur, even the vet still didnt understand.

Come Wednesday he went to the vets again, the vet prescribed him with heart tablets, and to give him aspirin , to thin the blood incase it was a clot preventing him from walking on him paw.

Throughout Wednesday he became back to his normal self, even happy, not in pain, eating more, drinking, (but not excessively) toileting, started purring and attacking me again! even started walking around the house again, but still no hind right PAW function.

Its now Thursday and no changes have been in him, hes completely fine minus his paw.

Im a little worried because my mom and dad have said no to an amputation, as of his age, but im not sure. Im worried his paw will go gangrene and we will have to put him down as of no operation, but hes completely happy and himself, so i couldnt do live with myself if i took that away.

Does anybody know this happening to their cat? or what it could be? or anything I could do?

Thanks
Jodie

Hi Jodie,

It looks like it's been about 4 weeks since you posted...after reading your account of what happened to Vialli, I can understand how worried you must be.  Thank goodness you were able to begin working with your Vet.

So...how is your kitty?  It sounds like your family has taken great care for her...especially recognizing that Senior cats can experience changes in their health that may require more frequent visits to the Vet.

When you have time, please update us...sorry I don't have any real "advice"...just sending good thoughts to you, Vialli, and your family.

Until next time...Annie
