Hopefully someone can help I took in two feral cats a year ago, which I had fed sporadically on my street for a few months. One was fairly friendly while the other was more skittish. Over the last year, they have become more friendly, with myself being able to pet both although I still cannot pick either up without them freaking out.
2 weeks ago I noticed a bad flea problem. Not making the wisest decision I bought a flea spray at a store, used it on both, but on 1 of my cats once I was done using it she began to try and clean herself off. Basically she started "foaming at the mouth" for a couple minutes. Clearly sensitive to the spray. I was able to comfort her, and she seemed ok, but soon enough darted downstairs, with the other cat soon to follow.
This was followed by some urinating on furniture and in bathrooms on rugs and in the tub. After some maneuvering of the litter boxes and feeding both now downstairs instead of in my room ( which was on the third floor) the cats seem to be back to normal. My problem is one of my housemates isn't a huge fan of the cats, and having them resume spending most of their time in my room would be beneficial to myself because of this, and I believe more comfortable for them.
I don't know how to get them to meander back to my room. They were feral so I don't want to frighten them and traumatize them any more than they have been. Do I just wait it out with the hopes they will eventually reclaim my room as their territory? Or is there another way I can facilitate the move? Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!! thanks
