Kitten breathing like an Owl/Lion

Hi Forum Members,

I'm looking after my aunties kitten (18 weeks old) as she has gone on holiday, all has been going well for the last 3 days until yesterday I noticed that she's breathing like an owl/lion , It's not really loud until you are rite up to her, she is drinking and eating normally, any idea what could be wrong?

Thank you

Could you give some more information? What does breathing like a lion mean?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by breathing like a lion either.

Does she sound stuffy? Or is she panting?

One of my cats will pant when she has been playing too hard. She has a bit of a heart murmur so I try not to over-exert her.

Hopefully someone else will come along soon who might know better.

Is it possible she is just doing a very quiet purr? I'm not sure what you mean by breathing like an owl/lion. Does the kitten sound congested?

One of my cats breathes funny as well. She only does it when she is very relaxed and it just sounds like she might be a little stuffy or snoring.

We took her to the vet though and they think it is just because of her being so relaxed. Similar to snoring when people are so relaxed during sleep.

Maybe it could be something similar? Do you have a sample sound?

I have heard of this in older cats but not in kittens. It could be absolutely nothing but it's probably best to make a quick visit to the vet and be sure.
