Kitty with a limp.....

It seems like this week has been super hectic at my house. Shumba was able to come out of isolation from his URI, to then start puking (he seems to be feeling better now), but now that he is all squared away....

My girl, Esme, has come down with a limp. We came home from work last night and she had a slight limp going on. It wasn't too terribly noticeable, but enough that I could see it. Shumba stays in isolation during the day, so I know it's not from a fight with him or anything. I figured maybe it was just something minor, but when I woke up this morning, she was not too interested in moving around. I also noticed that when she did move, that her limp had intensified. She prefers not to put weight on it, but she will at times. As the morning progressed, she started lifting it off of the ground, but she is still kind of moving around.

I was reading up on limping with cats and the info is so overwhelming! It has been colder out the past few days, so I was wondering could this be a sign of arthritis? -- We also have some Cosequin capsules by IAMS; Does anyone know if these are safe to give in general? As maybe a precaution?

She is 8yrs old. She didn't mind me feeling it and moving it around. Both my boyfriend and I checked her for any cuts or anything embedded in her paw pads, but we didn't see anything. We also checked her nails and everything seems A-OK.

I was just posting this also because some sites say you can maybe hold off on calling the vet, others say call, it's all so confusing! I've been to the vet 2x already in the past week and have to go once more on Monday (check ups and stuff), so if I can avoid any additional costs it would be nice if I could treat her at home or wait it out to see if it goes away.

Update
I called the vet this morning because she still seems to be limping. She is still putting weight on it when she walks, and when she is idle she will occasionally lift it very lightly. Since Shumba has to go back to the vet Monday to finish up a round of shots, they said to just bring her then. Since she is still walking on it, but just with a limp, they think she should be OK until then.

Please send her way to help her heal!

She may have taken a fall and sprained her ankle or something minor. I think it will be perfectly fine to just bring her in on Monday.

Thanks Minka.

Sounds like she might have hurt it playing/jumping or she might a touch of arthritis starting up. You might try the Cosequin and see if that helps while you wait to take her to the vet.

Thanks Stephanie! We are trying the Cosequin now to see if that will help.
