So i come home from class tonight to find out from my sister (she's living w/my husband and i) that Isis has decided to get her tongue stuck on itself. as my sister described it, it was like when a human rolls their tongue back on itself to touch, but since a cat's tongue has all those barbs for catching hair, Isis's tongue got stuck rolled up, and no one noticed until she started trying to meow (she was sitting on my husband's lap, apparently drooling, I assume it wasn't for long, since she lets people know she's distressed pretty quickly). my sister had to reach into her mouth pretty far and help get her tongue unstuck. I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this at all, since I'm pretty sure there's no way to prevent this from happening. or is there? any advice, stories, suggestions welcome!!!

I would ask for a second opinion and approach your sister's diagnosis with skepticism, heh.

I had a friend that swore he saw a black bear dead on the side of the road here. Uhm, we don't have black bears here. Went back after argument, and it was just an unusually large wildboar. He saw something, but it wasn't what he thought he saw. I won a free dinner.... no not the roadkill.

Maybe she had a string stuck back there? I can't imagine that cats can naturally get their tongues stuck like that. . .it seems to be a bad survival technique
. But if there was something she licked, like string or whatever, that would make more sense.

So the tongue got stuck like velcro? I've never heard of it before. Poor thing. It must have been scared to bits.

In order for such a thing to happen, the barbs would have to curl back upon themselves, making them useless for grooming. Obviously, they don't.

Whatever your sister saw, Twobananaz, it wasn't what she thought.

Saw a dead wild boar on the way to Houston this week. I can see how it could be mistaken for a bear.

However, we DO have black bears in Texas, especially east Texas. I've seen them killed by the side of the road, a few times. As you go west, they become less common.

That is crazy! She should have taken a picture so we could have inspected the situation further

yeah, i kind of wish i had been home at the time, so that i could validate or dismiss her diagnosis of the situation, but i'll never know unless Isis decides to grace me with a repeat performance. I'm hoping not though! =)
