A little contest for those who cook

On the way to Connecticut on Friday, we stopped at Penzey in Norwalk for my supply of spices and herbs. I had some free coupons to use and two of those coupons were for a 2.3 ounce jar of Forward, their new seasoning blend.

Well, it turns out that I was able to get two 2.3 ounces jars and a 0.9 ounce jar of Forward. For free. I'm going to keep one of the larger jars and I'm giving the smaller jar to my MIL to use. But I still have one jar left.

So.....for those of you who cook, if you're interested in a 2.3 ounce jar of Forward, please throw me a PM and let me know. I'll mail it out to you and I'll pay the postage.

What's in Forward? According to the jar, "Special Extra Bold black pepper, onion, paprika, garlic, tumeric, spice extractives (inc oleoresin of celery, rosemary, black pepper, thyme, basil, paprika)". It's salt-free.

And what can you do with it? Drizzle air-popped popcorn with olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle Forward on your popcorn. Try it on potatoes of every kind, from oven-roasted to baked. Try it on your breakfast hash browns. Sprinkle on chicken pieces (1 teaspoon per pound) and bake at 350 degrees until done. Sprinkle it on veggies, pasta, rice, etc. Adds a boost to low-salt soups and stews. Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per quart of soup. Try it in gravy, too. Add to your bread crumbs for pork chops, chicken, etc. Great in all vegetarian dishes. (This is according to Penzey....I've not tried it yet.)

PM me if you're interested in receiving a jar of Forward. And next Saturday, Oct. 29th, I'll write every name on a piece of paper, ball the papers and throw them on the floor. We'll let Mollipop pick the name! And I'll post the name and then you can PM me your address.

Let me know!

Yum! I bet that would go good on some roasted veggies! Might be a nice change for Thanksgiving!

I used something like that on roasted potatoes! I would coat the cubed potatoes with olive oil and place in pan. then sprinkle on the spice and bake until tender. We loved it! count me in!!

great idea for picking the winner! That mix sounds interesting, and a good way to cut out salt too.

I've added the people who PMed me last night to the list.

BTW, I tried Forward on roasted potato wedges last night and it's good stuff. I just sprinkled olive oil on the potato wedges, then threw them on a pan and sprinkled Forward on them....probably about 1-1/2 teaspoons to three potatoes worth of wedges, maybe a little more as we like spice. Roasted in the oven. They were good. I think the winner will like Forward.

I would totally try and snag the prize and save you the shipping...You know me and Mollipop have an across the river bond lol but I told DF about it and as soon as I said pepper he said no way. That silly man absolutely HATES pepper and I cant sneak it into anything at all..even white pepper he can taste it and gets all snippy if I try and use it.

Remember I said that I had a small jar of Forward? Well, my MIL told me tonight that she doesn't want to try it. So here's the deal.....

Tabby was quite put out with me because I said that Mollipop could choose the name for Forward. So since I now have the smaller jar, too, I told her that she can pick a second name and we'll send the small jar to the second name.

And Tabby is a happy little kitty.

(Honestly, the things I do for those girls!)

Thanks for the reminder-I have to find my coupon. If you continue to use their coupons they keep including more when you get their catalogs. We have a Penzey's in town and I have many many of their products. At work we get our herbs/spices from another Penzey brother who owns The Spice House also based in Milwaukee,WI.
