I am owned by 5 cats here....4 are purebred Ragdolls. I have been letting 2 of the Ragdolls out recently. They are indoor only cats. I had a monster 60 foot branch fall in my yard last week. I have been letting these 2 cats under strict supervision by myself into the yard. Today......Chuba...Chuba decided to climb this tree to be curious...........She got at least 40 feet high and started to cry for me. I called her down but she quickly realized that her claws are for climbing. Chuba quickly jumped to the ground and I heard a big "thump" when she landed......It happened so quick that I had no room for decisions. Chuba appears to be OK at this point. This scared the living crap out of me. I love her dearly....and she is a major piece in my own life

She landed on grass?

Keep an eye on her. Especially watch for foot/back/jaw problems; those are the most common injuries in a fall from that height.

Yes she landed on grass. Chuba..Chuba has landed. She is very happy and is normal with me from this post. Why would my cat suddenly decide to jump????? She fell at least 40 feet.......Guess that she is a very special lady.

I have seen videos of cats making such a jump, and it just seems like they decide that "down there" is better than "up here."

I had no choice once she ran up the downed tree. I just never expected for her to suddenly bail and jump from that height...
.........Hope that you all have a great night!

The Chuba...Chuba is a warrior and is doing fine after her 40+ foot fall today. At this kind of height........I figured an injury for the cat would be guaranteed. I thank god for my luck today. The Chuba...chuba appears to be fine. Thank you for your concern.

I had a cat climb to the top of a telephone pole...not sure how high, not more than 30 feet. I talked him down, and he jumped to me...I broke his fall, slightly, with my hand, and he was just fine.

ETA: I was only about 14...I probably woudn't try that now! LOL

I just want to thank the good lord that the "Chuba...Chuba cat is OK

It is confusing here sometimes. I would take her to the vet in a minute if she was hurt from that 40+ foot fall.
