So after everyones advice for ham and bean soup I went shopping and found two nice and meaty ham shanks about 4lbs work (I wanted some meat in my soup and ham steaks werent on sale) and I bought canned beans..they were on sale and easier lol.

IT WAS AWESOME! All I did was use one 2lb container of chicken stock put the ham shanks in and filled it with water and then added one can of beans to it. Turned it on and let it get to a boil then turned it down a little and let it simmer for about 3 hours. Took the shanks out and let them cool off and tore apart the ham tossed it in the pot, added the rest of the beans and let it cook some more. It was seriously sooo yummy and exactly what I wanted, hammy beans. LOL No frills no froof just a good old cold day warm you up comfort food type of soup.

FREAKING AWESOME! I even shared some with a friend and he loved it and wants more the next time I make it.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!

Thank you. Even though I don't care for ham and bean soup myself, your post brought back memories of Mom, who died in June. I always think of her when I hear about ham/bean soup. She used to enjoy making it, and apparently, it was stupendous. It's something I always associate with her. She was a wonderful cook, and made the best meatloaf.

Congrats on the victory!!!!

Thanks Pam. I was so proud of myself and it was a huge hit...It was officially added to the must make again list and I just found out that when Dfs work does their soup sales they want me to come over and make the ham and bean soup because the owner of the whole company was the one I shared soup with and he LOVED it and told the ladies that they need me to help make the soups. I was floored...Like seriously FLOORED! Ive gotten good jobs before but never that kinda woo woo feeling with my cooking. It made me sooooooooo happy! I think even DF was surprised lol
