I've heard/read that major changes are come to TCS. I don't anything about it, and am wondering what's going on? It's a common joke in my family that I'm always the last to know, so now I'm wondering---am I the last to know?

Seriously, I've heard no more gifts, no more siggies, changes to the boards. Anyone know what's up?

Youtube embedding and automatic image resizing would be nice features to add.

I would cry a little inside, really.

I get edgy when I know a website is going to change, since often times the changes are terrible. Facebook being the worst offender. Youtube following closely behind. Then there was my bank site. They changed EVERYTHING, literally and made simple things impossible to find. It took me over an hour to find out how to view my account summary.

I love TCS as it is right now. It makes me happy.
So I hope this information is wrong!

It seems everyone is constantly updating things, and I really hate dealing with technology changes LOL. I had to migrate to Windows 2007 - which wasn't SO bad. I had to migrate to android - which was a real PIA, because I use Microsoft, and it was nearly impossible to figure out how to sync my Outlook with my phone, which I used to be able to do in a snap.

The browsers are constantly updating. I loved Firefox, and it became unstable on my system, so I had to migrate to Opera.
I miss all the customization and a lot of the Firefox features that no one else seems to have! I just had to install an update for Thunderbird, and I find this "new look" and organization much more difficult to use - and it's slower.

Sorry for my little "I hate change" rant - but like LuvMyParker, I like TCS the way it is now.

All I can say, is I agree with Laurie. I love this place, my home away from home
. And the way it is set up for us to personalize our posts with siggy's etc. makes it feel like we are all one big happy family

Especially considering you're the first person to try out that operating system.

See? I don't even know what it's called. What is it? (It definitely was Office 2007, but don't know what the operating Microsoft thingy is called if it isn't Windows 2007 LOL).

It even took me a day to figure out how to answer my new smart phone when I first got it
. Then larry goes and upgrades the computers to Windows 8
That really did me in

The worst about my new phone is that I can't use any of the programs I bought for the microsoft mobile operating system used on the old PDA. I really hate that!

This is not "the" official announcement, where we'll be providing all the necessary details, but yes, a change of platform is coming up
Some features will become unavailable, some temporarily and others for good, while new features will be added/upgraded.

I know these changes can be daunting, but they are just part of online life. If you don't move forward, you slide backwards, especially when it comes to software. We hope the new platform will be fast, reliable, and above all, allow us to maintain and grow the wonderful community spirit of TCS. And I do strongly believe that this spirit is all about cats and our love of cats - not about any technical aspects of the system. Personally, I felt like TCS was long due for a change - too many of our software modules are becoming nothing short of obsolete and have no tech support whatsoever.

Again, an official announcement with the necessary details will come in due time. For now, we are testing the new system at this phase and adjusting a few last things.

Thank you for your patience
I do appreciate it!

Why do I not find it surprizing that a bunch of cat loving people do not like change?

You know, they say that after a while, pets begin to superficially resemble their owners, but I'm wondering if the opposite is true, or if we are just drawn to cats because of their similarities to us

I definitely have my head screwed on backwards, Anne.
Of course it's MOSTLY about the cats... but TCS was always more than just the cats, which is what made it so different than other cat or pet-related forums.
Obviously the mods won't change, and policies won't change, so the "feel" of the community won't change in that sense. But IMO it would be sad to see that "personal touch" enabled by the technology not be supported.

So as to the signatures specifically... I finally figured out how to decorate Chumley for the changing holidays!

Personally, I think the signatures are part of that personal touch, and they're such a fun, funny/cute and colorful way to "present" our kitties. I'd really miss them.

Chumley in his Pilgrim hat looks so very fetching. That cat has "a face!"

Though I don't have a signature myself, I very much appreciate and enjoy those of so many others. Many are so wonderful, clever, beautiful, and interesting.

Guess I'll never have one now.

They were one of my favorite parts of TCS. Oh well, I suppose times change, and I'm sure an updated version will be pretty nice.
Where does it say there will be no more signatures.

I guess changes do need to happen. But as long as I can keep up with the people on here like now I'm sure it will be fine.

I do hope siggies stay. I love them too. Gifts are nice; but not necessary I guess.
