So my cat is about ~10 months old now, shes prettymuch fully grown, but in the last few weeks she has developed some issues.

It came on rather suddenly when it happened, it wasn't like a build up, but now she will occasionally go into a spell of breathing that is both loud, and congested sounding.

-imagine sucking really hard through a straw, with mucus flapping in it. And you can get the idea. Even when the breathing isnt loud, during these spells, you can still hear the mucus in her breathing.

Whats odd, is there is no discharge, her eyes look fine, her nose is normal, etc. She is still fully active, playful, and otherwise unaffected.

I took her to the vet, and they gave her some anti-bacterial shot. They cant tell if its an infection of sorts, or if its an upper respiratory problem. So they told me that if it continued, they would want to do blood-work, x-rays, etc. Which will require sedation.

Today however, she has jumped into sneeze spells, usually about 10-12 sneezes in a row, where she will lift up her paw in front of her face, and sneeze while trying to lick her paw.. Still no discharge, and shes still acting completely normally otherwise

If things don't improve, im going to take her in on Monday for the blood-work/x-rays, but they are quoting right around $300 just to tell me whats wrong. Who knows how much it will cost to fix the problem.

Anyhow, anybody have any tips or tricks or clues for me?

Airborne allergies, just like humans get! Think about the weather that you were having when this started. Did this start about the same time the weather changed? Many cats have allergies just like humans, so if there is no colored (green or yellow) discharge and if her eyes are weeping any colored gunk (again, green or yellow), then it's most likely allergies and will pass. Keep an eye on her and if you notice any change in behavior (sleeping more, not wanting to play, or hiding) or any change in eating or litter box habits, then take her to the vet. You could try adding some Lysine to her wet food to see if that helps. Give her 250mg twice a day until it clears up. You can get the tablets at Wal-mart in the supplements section and crush them between 2 spoons.

thanks for the above info guys, the local vet gave her a anti-inflamitory shot, as well as some sort of specialized antibiotic, and she is doing better now, she still has the occasional spell, but its not as bad as it was.
