Does any one know about putting hay in a cat house. I used blankets last winter and the blankets were cold always. I am always warming them up. I do have a heated pad that only gets warm when she lays on it. I might order this hay on line. It has catnip in. Just wondering if my Bella would lay on it because she hates anything that I change. We had a northeaster yesterday and my husband put a blue tarp round her house for more shelter and she freaked out and now will not go in. I am going. To go out and put some catnip and treats in. For. Her. Hopefully she will go. Back in. So can some tell me about using hay. Does it get mil drew or does it bring any bugs? Thanks

I filled the cat house my DH made last fall with straw and my feral hated it. He refused to go inside. I heard it was great since the cat could burrow down into the straw and also the straw wouldn't keep the moisture. Yet, my dearest Shadow hated it. I just used blankets and towels and constantly changed them.

I had always heard to use straw. This time of year you can often find bales of it at garden centers since people use it for fall decorations. You can also find it at a feed store. You may need to change it out a few times if it gets dirty.

This winter I am adding a Shelterlogic shed on my deck to place the cat house inside. Shadow loves to sleep on the deck on our outdoor love seat. We have an awning over the deck, but it is not recommended for use during the winter so we have to take it down. I convinced DH that Shadow needed a place he could still use the love seat. The shed arrived yesterday and we will put it together this weekend. I am going to try and modify it by adding a window. It will kill me if I can't see inside.

OH, I would NOT use hay. Yes, hay can get moldy and rather quickly. And it can be quite dusty, attract bugs and not dry out as well as straw. Definitely use straw only for the feral houses and fill it quite full. They LOVE to burrow into the straw and have it wrap around them like a blankie, all cozy warm that way.

I found I could buy straw on line. It has catnip in it. 16 dollars for 3lbs. It is from feral villa web site. It's just that my wonderful bella is just so fussy.

Oh sure, FeralVilla has straw
. I have fresh catnip that a friend gave me and I have used that in my villa to attract my ferals to their new house. Good luck with your Bella
