Hello everyone. This is my first post.
I have had cats all my life, but it has been awhile since I've taken care of kittens. Recently my boyfriend and I adopted 2 11 week old kittens from the Pet Assistance League of Virginia. One kitten is orange and is named Gemma. Gemma is a little hyper, but very quiet (she hasn't meowed or anything yet). The other is her sister April who is blue and buff. April is very chill, likes to meow to get attention, and is probably about a pound smaller than her sister. April also has more features of an exotic cat with a pug nose.
The kittens are doing well adapting to their new home. They have a large condo to spread out in and will remain as indoor cats. They've been spayed and are up to date on their shots. They've also been given frontline. The only problem is that I noticed the kitties are scratching their ears a bit and shaking their heads- not a lot, but maybe twice in an hour. Just to be sure, I checked out their ears- and yep, there's black "coffee ground"-like spots in their ears.
My question is this: I can't get them into the vet until friday. What can I do to help them out and alleviate any discomfort they may have? I have used a little bit of olive oil on a cotton ball to swipe around the ear, being careful to not go too far in their ear. This seems to help with some of the discomfort and also helped clean out their ears a bit. Luckily the kitties haven't fought me on this process, and I give them a little bit of moist food after their daily treatment.
Is there anything over the counter that has worked, or should I just wait to get Revolution from my vet?
