I'm going to Pet Supplies Plus today. Its 50 miles away so I would like some advice before I head out late this afternoon, please. Mia (5mths old) has been on 4 differant types of food sence I got her at 7 weeks old. She was on SD when I got her and she had diareah and hated it. She went on Purina One and did ok on it but was VERY gassy. Next was Nutro Natural Choice Healthy Kitten. She did very well but its pricy and she was gassy too. Now she is on TOTW (3 weeks). Price is right. She eats it ok but is gassy. Stools are very soft, sometimes loose. She has been checked by the vet and she is worm free.

Can any of you recomend a kitten food, not to expensive (I paid $10.48 for a 6 pound bag of TOTW). , yet good for her too. I will go up a little from TOTW if I can find a good food. She eats dry only. Tried wet she doesnt like it.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but we have a gassy cat who does well (and doesn't stink) on Blue Wilderness dry food.

Hmm, I don't know about prices because I don't feed dry but I can give you (for next time) a list of foods to try. With these foods you don't need to worry about whether the kind you pick is kitten or not because they all will be more nutritious in adult form than kitten food from other companies is.

Evo, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Natural Balance, Before Grain, Blue Buffalo and Innova are all really good brands. If she continues to have gas no matter what you do, dry food may just be too hard on her system and you may have to go in a different direction with food.

Thank you both for answering my post. I ended up buying Nutro Max Cat for Kittens. What I read was good for the price (12.98 for 7lbs.). Does anyone have experiance with this? I havnt opened it yet, finishing up the TOTW. Not much left of it. Any input would be great. My only income is SSDI thats why I need something good but not to expensive. Thanks!

Also, she eats dry only. She wont have anything to do with wet.

Mmm, I'm distrustful of Nutro. They've had so many recalls its not even funny...
But on the other hand, quite a few people here feed Nutro to their cats and say it's just fine.

However, all of their dry foods contain very little protein and what protein they do have is mostly comprised of corn gluten meal, which is a by-product of making corn syrup. It also can be used as weed killer. :/
Soy (bad for the thyroid) and menadione (http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione) are also in almost all of their dry foods.

I'm with Minka on the Nutro. I just don't care for the dry food ingredients. My cats get a mix of dry and canned. I actually mix a grain inclusive and a grain free food for the dry. I rotate through brands though so they don't get hooked on one or two. They are not really picky and love their crunchies but I limit it as canned is better. Anyways, my two have eaten Blue Wilderness, Wellness, TOTW, Felidae, Blue Buffalo with grain, Before Grain, Orijen, Acana and Innova. Ones they haven't done well on or didn't like are as follows: Solid Gold Katz n Flocken( became real itchy and flaky), Natures Variety(good food, but they didn't like it), Blue Wilderness with Duck( I think Kattie is allergic to Duck but still a fine food). Our mainstays are the Wellness, Blue Wilderness,TOTW, and Acana. They also seem to do the best on those foods. They also get canned. i love the Wellness slices in gravy, because my cats don't like pates. They also eat Friskies or FF canned because they like it and the moisture is important. Now we are doing more of the Wellness. Also they like the Nutro Natural Choice in cans. The only Nutro I will buy and only occasionally. Hopefully that helps. I think I type too much

Thankyou Minka and Kattiekitty for your help.

I did find the corn gluten in the Max Cat Kitten but not Soy or menadione. I will be taking this back to the pet store if I can get there before I run out of the other food (which will be soon). Otherwise I will have to use this as The store is 50 miles away. I'm in a very rural area. Even the nearest Wal-Mart is 26 miles away. Thankyou for letting me know and I will check more closely when getting her food next.

Not a problem
. Another food that is good, and I have found in feed stores and rural pet stores is chicken soup for the cat lovers soul. It has a silly name, but is actually a really good, affordable food if you can find it. My parents feed their dog the dog version and it is the only thing that she won't get sick on. I would feed it in my mix, but no stores around me carry it.

I ended up in a town with a Pet Supply Plus today and exchanged the Nutro Max Cat Kitten Food for TOTW Rocky Mountain Feline Formula. Its all Life Stages. She has ate it before and she liked it but physically I dont think I gave her body enough time to get used to it. I want to try it on her again. Right now she is eating a mixture of it and Purina one(that I had from previously) So I shouldnt have a problem switching her over.

The reason I got Max Cat Kitten was I was thinking she would do better on straight kitten food. She is 5 months old now so I am guessing an All Life Stage is ok.

I've also had some issues with trying to get my head around the fact that Grain Free is ok. I always thought it was a little wierd. The lady at the pet store and I talked quite a while about kitten nutrition. She said TOTW is one she uses too.
I felt much better about my purchase after we talked!

Thanks everyone!
