Not sure what to do with him. He was hospitalized at the vets all weekend because he stopped eating and I had to go out of town this weekend and it was too late to cancel. The vet said his UT problems seemed to be stress related. I've been stressed out by fiances for awhile and the expense of having him hospitalized and taken to the vet twice this week is not helping. He was happy and rolling around this morning but didn't look like he was much interested in the Vet perscribed food I gave him and he was sitting with his face in the water bowl this morning. May go back to feeding him fancy feast. As much as I hate to it seems to be the only thing he will eat. :-(

I also had to replace the rotary disk and front breaks in my car this weekend so taking him to the vet again is something I can't afford. All this and I'm not allowed to get stressed out because I think that's making him stressed out and making him sick....according to the vet.
Rasta the other cat is now following his lead and not eating much. I tried feeding them apart but it doesn't work. She won't eat unless the food bowl is in a certain place. Maybe he smells stranger to her since he was at the vets for a few days. I'm not sure but she's been avoiding him. She's very docile and is never aggressive.

If anyone has some suggestions I will be glad to take them.

Stick with the prescription food. It took me awhile to get him to eat it but I think it is worth the trouble if it keeps him healthy.

Try mixing the food that he likes with the prescription food. If he eats that then gradually reduce the amount of the old food until he is eating just the prescription food.

If he absolute refuses the prescription food get the vet to give you another brand.

I feed one brand dry and another brand of the wet. He eats and so far has not had any more problems.

Oh, gosh, things always seem to happen all at once. Which prescription food are you using so far, and wet or dry? My boy doesn't like the wet CD terribly much, but adores the dry CD with chicken. And, there are a couple of different lines of urinary prescription foods.

Ricky probably does smell funny to your other cat.

I suspect my own boy's crystal issues are stress-related - he's far more sensitive to any little changes at home than my girl is.

The vet wants him solely on wet food. I'm hoping to get home tonight and find all the wet food gone. Will try fancy feast if he didn't eat it. He's also on pain meds and I'm wondering if that may be part of his not eating much.
Vet stressed he must be stress free as much as possible which it going to be hard as I'm stressed with my problems.

Crossing my fingers that works! My vet would prefer Dante eat only wet - but Dante is so strong minded about it that we compromised and do a bit of the CD wet and dry (never mixed together, though).

I'd also ask the vet about the meds' possible effect. I know my girl wouldn't eat very much at all while on clavamox (and I pretty much panicked).

Vets seem to disagree on food. Mine seems to prefer all dry. I compromise and feed both.

You can still try mixing with wet. Also, Chester does not like pate style food he will only eat chunks or shredded. And most prescription food is more like ground mush. I found only one prescription food that comes in chunks and that's what he eats.

I think most vets are like other medical providers - they mesh best practices and protocols for what they've seen in their own personal experience. Mine would love all the cats to be on wet food, but some cats just don't seem to either like wet, at all, or do well on it. What can you do?

They are friends again too. I guess the smell of the vets office just took a few days to wear off but they are buddies again :-). Ricky is eating and rolling around and very chipper so I guess he's feeling better....I would hope after the vet bills I have but that's another story. Anyway I mixed his perscription food with fancy feast and added a little pedialite and he finally would eat this morning and looked like he used the litterbox
I will keep mixing in the fancy feast because neither cat seems to like the c/d perscription food for some reason. Rasta will only eat whatever Ricky does or when he does....talk about peer pressure. She follows his lead in just about everything except laying around. She was swishing by me all over the apartment last night....guess I don't need to worry about her feeling ok...
