Alley Cat Allies was founded in 1990, the first national feral cat advocacy organization.
They created National Feral Cat Day in 2001 and groups around the country now promote it every October 16 as a kick-off for educational campaigns about the protection of stray and feral cats and TNR programs.
This year the theme is "Compassion for Cats," and the celebration has grown! In 2008, there were 90 programs for National Feral Cat day in 30 cities. THIS YEAR THERE ARE 347 EVENTS and there are events IN ALL 50 STATES!
