I'm so happy I found the gym I go to now- as soon as I walk in I feel this positive energy in the air, everyone is so happy and smiling all the time,, because we are all there for the same reason, and everyone is willing to offer support...Besides, people who exercise generally have more endorphins in their brain anyway so they are less likely to be in a bad mood, so they won't be as judgmental and negative towards others! I go to zumba three times a week, a toning class that's both cardio and strength on Fridays, and a spinning class on Mondays...Zumba can make you feel a little strange at first when you're trying to get the moves right, especially for me because I never dance otherwise, but it's tons of fun and time goes sooo fast.. Zumba is what I am looking into doing.... My friend, the one who is an instructor, keeps telling me I have have have to do it! I was with her last week in KS City and I told her I don't like gyms.... So she said there is this friend of hers here in Dallas who is an instructor in a studio, and she will put me in contact with her.... We will hook up for a drink before
then go dance. I do know how to dance well, and love it - I am hoping that helps some.... Also now I am no longer ashamed of my body, and moving is easier too.... which I think helps too

I've been trying to cut down on simple carbs and fat, and eating more lean protein and whole grains, but somehow I'm just not able to do that 100% of the time, Then don't and don't worry about it.... Just do the times you can, and when you can't don't look back, don't judge yourself, don't feel bad - it is alright, really!! and even a small deviation can throw things off balance and fat loss won't happen, it will, but slower.... which is good
especially since I have trouble with portion control too
I guess I just need to be more organized and count my calories, I don't really believe that - I do some, but not really.... Don't go neurotic, don't try too hard, too fast, or you will drop it... carbs, fat and protein.... I really just don't know what else to do, because I do love to eat, and while I don't eat compulsively anymore ( never eat until I'm uncomfortable) I still find it hard to find out exactly when I'm full.. Eat slowly.... let your brain catch up to your stomach... and pay attention to it. When you are satisfied, stop. As I said, I take Flax Seed Meal with a bit of juice, followed by a full glass of water some minutes before my meals - this helps to fill me up - fiber. Flax Seed meal is a special, very special fiber- studies were done (in Brazil) that people who took it lost much more weight then people who didn't. It helps to level your blood sugars, has a TON of omegas, it lowers your cholesterol like it's no one's business, and it helps me to fill me up.Or I can be full and stop eating, but then two hours later I'm ready for a snack again....and small snacks really do add up
Snack! Eat a snack there is no problem having a snack - it keeps you from starving at meal time... Snacking is an excellent thing to do! Eat a hand full of nuts, handfull of wholegrain cerel, a cup of yoghurt, a fruit.... Eat a healthy snack....
Don't be too hard on yourself.... Don't expect too much too fast.... Make small changes.... The weight WILL drop.... You won't lose 8lbs a week, but you will lose a ton in the long run....

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've done well.
I've managed around 50 pounds this year.......but I'll guarantee I will NEVER see even size 16 on top - I am doomed to XXL tops but the other half is certainly getting smaller; need new pants again.

. Yep, I don't really cook

I did make the change of switching to Kashi and Amy's - they are organic and use no preservatives - they are also found on Walmart and Target, which helps a whoooooole lot! Amy's is frozen food - they started selling at Trader Joe's, and I always LOVED their food, so I was just thrilled to see them at target and Walmart!
Kashi has everything - from crackers to cereals, that are great to snack on, to cereal bars, to frozen food.... They are awesome.
Then my salads I just buy the huge trays of washed mixed greens or spinach (did I say I am lazy?
) packs of cherry tomatoes, cooked chicken breast, feta cheese (or mexican fresh white cheese), nuts, cranberry..... and dressing...
The fruit I usually buy cut too - the trays..... oh, and yoghurt!!
I never have much food at home... Sometimes I run out of food (like tonight)- yep, I am a bachelorette
- tomorrow is store day!

I definitely need to follow suit on the Gym thing! Way to go for you!!!
I never really cooked much, but since I got laid off I have been cooking more. I am trying to cook meals that are healthier but still taste good. Tonight we had pizza meatloaf and it was so easy to make and tasted good. The recipe made 2 meatloaves so one is for dinner another day and it cost about $10 for both. Tomorrow we are having ham cooked with pineapple and scalloped potatoes.

I have never seen frozen Kashi food before. I love the cereal and the bars. I buy the pre-made salads usually that come in the bag. I noticed the other day that Wal Mart has big containers of salads so I am going to buy some of those with groceries.

I am with you on not having much food at home. It's just me and my husband and he is gone from 8-5 Monday to Friday. We usually have enough food for dinner for the week and that's about it.

I was out of work for almost 6 months and I fell into a huge depression and I ended up gaining a lot of weight. I gained almost 10 pounds in a year then after getting horrible job after that, I gained more. The first job was my first job in high school. In Dec. of '08 I left that job weighing a trim 120lbs, before I got the gym membership I weighed around 140lbs. I know 140 isn't horrible but I'm holding the weight in all the worst places so clothes just fit horribly. I've lost about 5 lbs so far, clothes aren't fitting any better...yet, BUT I'm sure once I start my Zumba and Body Blaster classes it will start coming off. I've heard that you can burn 600-800 calories in a 60 minute Zumba session.
I've started eating as healthy as I can on my buget. Getting whole grain stuff, veggies low-fat dressings, so on and so on but when my grocery buget is only about $100 for 2 people for 2 weeks, I can't always get all the healthy foods I want.

Go to Walmart!! That's where I do my shopping!!! I am so broke now, It's not even funny! They have Kashi & Amy's there, and these big and cheap trays of salad, and healthy/cheap stuff there. I just can't afford supermarkets anymore - all my shopping is either at Walmart or Target.... Has to be otherwise it kills my budget!!
Wow, and it IS all about Zumba, huh?

I am really impressed
especially as you have given up smoking at the same time
. I will have to take a leaf out of your book, I gave up smoking in January but have put on weight as I tend to pick and I have a really sweet tooth. So now I will try and follow your example

Yes, I was thinking about that!

I think I will browse the befores and see if I can find something here in my computer - it is hard because when you are overweight you are so good at getting behind things, taking pictures from the top, and most of all, deleting them

Then tomorrow I will take some outside - I get a neighbor to do it

Wow, Carolina, that's incredible, and you can definitely see the difference in the before and after shots. Congratulations! You've lost weight the right way, by changing your eating habits and doing it gradually so there's no yo-yo effect. Awesome!

It's good that you mentioned that you also gave up cigarettes, because fear of weight gain keeps a lot of people smoking.

You must really have a lot of shopping to do to replace your wardrobe. I lost just 13 lbs. after having thyroid surgery, and all of my jeans/slacks have had to be replaced.

Thank you Tricia
ok... That's my problem riiiight there! Clothes! The smallest suits, slacks and jeans I had were size 10- well..... Not exactly a 4! I do have a couple of jeans, black pants my friend gave me for my b-day I was a 6-8 at the time, and since they are cigarette skinny pants, they kind of fit still... Not as tight, but with a belt they can go for a while.
I went to Ross last week and bought a business suit, two slacks, and 2 shirts. I have a few dresses... Aside from thet, my closet is gone.
I think what I am going to do, I just start buying slowly... Before every meeting, I buy the clothes for it- this way it will add up soon, or every outing... Tomorrow is the day I will put my closet down... Don't know yet what I am going to do with my suits- I have some great suits... Should ask here at tcs if someone need business clothes... Times are tight... I even thought about doing a forum of weight change clothing exchange kind of PIF....
I even need to buy bras! Sad... Very sad..... Have to buy everything! I am broke and naked haha!!
